Blaster sat at the comm console in the Ark, the room dark except for the light from the screens. It was half past midnight and the base was content with peace. Anyone not on duty was snug in their berth. He hummed to himself for a couple of minutes then decided to open up a long-distance audio-only frequency. "Pagin' Cybertron. What's th' news?"
A few nanokliks passed, then came a reply in a feminine voice. "This is Cybertron. All quiet on the western, eastern, and southern front. To what do I owe the pleasure of this comm?"
Blaster smiled to himself. "Just a little bored tonight."
"Better than having to rush out to fight, isn't it?"
"You got it, lady."
Neither said anything for a moment but the frequency remained open. Blaster pondered something, then asked, "How's the lighting up there?"
"Whatcha mean?"
"Your base on power saver mode, too?"
A pause. "Now it is. ...Yeah, that is actually better on the optics right now."
Blaster settled back in his seat, elbows resting on the arms of the chair. "So did you ever get a chance t' listen t' those files I sent?"
"Some of them. I had to stop because someone had a few urgent-but-not-really things to send."
"Ah. Well, no probs...How 'bout right now?"
"You mean put them on now?"
"Yeah, all at once." He laughed. "Open up th' last folder an' try out th' third file."
Another pause, then the sound of gentle piano music drifted over the line. "Ooh...that's pretty. What is it?"
"Humans call it classical or easy listenin'. The instrument's called a piano." Blaster started playing the same track after matching it to where it had already played through on Recepcion's end. "I like t' shut my optics an' just listen." He did so. "I love rock'n'roll, but sometimes ya just need t' stop an' slow down for a bit. Especially when it's calm an' th' room's dark an' you're havin' a nice chat with someone." The corners of his mouth quirked upward as he pictured her with her optics shuttered and a smile of her own.
"...I like that."
