Japan #011: Some impressions (May 2012)

May 2012:

Danjiri Matsuri in Kobe Higashinada. "Danjiri" is the name of that Shrine-cart the guys in the photo are moving around. There are dozens of those carts belonging to the Shinto shrines located in each district or neighborhood of Kobe Higashinada. They were parading through the streets for many days during the "Golden Week" and were a little bit... annoying after a few days! Hahaha! Because the people pulling the cart were screaming, the people sitting and standing on the cart were making music and screaming and the people walking along the cart were screaming as well. Try to do homework when they're going just in front of your window and your window is not soundproof at all! xP

Shitenno-ji Temple in Osaka and its five stories pagoda. I went all the way up the pagoda to the very top (through an unbelievably narrow and steep staircase) and when I was back down again my legs felt like cramping and dying for the next hour! Hahaha~! (Not to mention the next few days...)

The Tale of Genji Museum in Uji (near Kyoto) shows how people in Japan have lived and looked like more than 1000 years ago! The "Tale of Genji", written in about 1000AD by Lady Murasaki Shikibu, is considered as the first fictional romance novel EVER!

The wonderful view of Uji river.

Next to Uji bridge.

Takoyaki are awesome. When you've overcome the fact that there's a little piece of an purple octopus' tentacle in there, it's really a great dish and a MUST EAT in Japan!

Dance performances at the "Kobe Matsuri" annual festival in Kobe Sannomiya.

The obligatory food corner at Kobe Matsuri!

The goldfish catching game at Kobe Matsuri. The first time I've seen this for real and not only in some stupid Anime!

The eclipse on May 21st was AWESOME! I never thought I would see a second eclipse in my life! (The next total eclipse in Germany is scheduled for 2081 or something - a date I will certainly NOT live to see that one!)

Oh my god, when you're ever in Japan, try this soft, fluffy, tasty bread or cake or whatever it is! It's basically made of foamy eggs and sugar, therefore it has an incredible amount of calories! But this is worth a little sin! (This is the basic one, there is also one with cream cheese flavor and another with chocolate flavor! Maybe even more...?)

An awesome month with really great weather! If there hadn't been so much to do for school I would have travelled like crazy!

To be continued...

events, yummy!, sights, japan, ~study abroad~
