snip-snap

I had a mother's mark removed yesterday.

I was so afraid it would hurt! A friend of mine went to a dermatologist once to have an infected hair root or pore (or something like that) removed. She told me that despite the anesthetic it hurt so much she nearly collapsed there. Fortunately it turned out my worries were completely ungrounded. The anesthetic injections did hurt, but after that everything else felt like someone pressed a cushion onto my shoulder blade. I was so relieved! Everything was over in about 15-20 minutes.

WARNING! Ugly details ahead! Don't read if you can't take them!

I couldn't see anything of the surgery, because the mark was located on my shoulder blade, but I lay there on my tummy and the tray for surgial instruments and everything stood just in my field of vision. Bloody scalpels, forceps, more and more bloody tissues... and then the doc dropped the piece of my skin on the tray.
It was pretty strange to see this piece, that has been a part of my body a moment ago, lying there in front of me! I recognized my mother's mark, my freckles around it, my own skin... It was pretty shocking at first! For a short moment I felt like in a SAW movie. Hahaha!
After that short moment of shock I grew interested. The piece was much bigger than I'd expected. The mark was only as big as a finger tip, but the size of the piece the doc removed qualified as a whole finger print! I could see several different layers of skin with their different colors. The biggest part, however was not the skin but FAT! Hahah! A thick, yellowish, wobbly chunk of fat. DISGUSTING! Hahaha! I thought the skin would be removed on the surface only, but it was almost a ball that was cut out. Only then I wondered how big the scar would be, how many stitches would be needed and how long it would take such a deep and big hole to heal completely. Well, I'll see...
Seems like I don't have a problem watching those things. Other people might have puked all over the room, but I was almost disapointed when the piece of skin (and fat) was put into a little box. It will be send it away to check if the mark  is dangerous or malignant or anything. (The doc said that was very unlikely. But better save than sorry, right.)

From here you are safe again...! Haha!

After everything was done, the wound was numb and didn't hurt at all, of course. I was afraid it would hurt like hell when the anesthetic wore off, since the shoulder blade is always in movement. Fortunately it's not as bad as expected. It does hurt a little bit when I move too much or let anything touch it. Getting dressed is difficult, because I need to raise my arms so high. And sleeping only on the right side is uncomfortable. But so far it's okay. I just need to be careful. The stitches will be removed at the end of the next week.

I hope for no infection this time! (>_<)
