Another Lightning pic!
I love drawing Lightning. Her lovely pink hair, the light skin tone, her eyes!
The more often I try the more I think my works qualify as good enough for her.
I tried a more "realistic" style again. No simplified Manga drawings this time. I like it very much! It's more complicated, of course, because there are no fixed lines I can stick to. Forms and plasticity are built through shadows and color differences and that requires much concentration. It was very much of an experiment and I had to throw away a first version, because I sucked up the coloring so badly it was beyond help! COPICs are still hard to handle for me. At least I own enough tones now to create any color atmosphere I wish for. The purplish gray shadows are awesome, aren't they?
Here's a photo of the sketch:
Good thing COPIC paper is so thin. I can easily trace the sketch and don't need to waste the original. (When I fucked up the first coloring I was overhappy the sketch was still there!)
I used a light gray liner for the most important and prominent lines (like the face contour, the eye and the hair), always keeping in mind that I didn't want them to be seen in the end.
Even if there are still countless mistakes (the nose is crooked, the lips too dark, ...), I like the way it came out!
That was some tough job there, even if it's only trading card size!!
I was inspired by the FFXIII-2 theme song "Yakusoku no Basho" by Mai Fukui. (Just the same song as "New World")
This new pic obviously links to a very smilar one I made before. Back then it was inspired by the FFXIII theme song "Kimi ga Iru Kara" by Sayuri Sugawara:
Remember? This one is from October 2010. Feels like ages ago!!!
I guess the improvement is obvious... (O_o)
Maybe I won't be able to draw for a long time when I'm in Japan. I'll have to leave all my drawing and painting utensils at home...
But I'll try to find a way and practice while I'm there! As long as I can get a pencil in my hand I can produce something, right! (>_<)
