Donnez-vous mon "bra"????

So in order to obtain your residence permit in France, you have to have to go see a doctor. They take an X-ray of your lungs, and in order to do so you have to take your shirt and your bra off for a nurse (yeah, really). No one gave me a heads-up on this, so when the nurse told me to do that I was pretty shocked and uncomfortable, but of course got over it and got the X-ray done. After this, you go into a doctor's office and have a one-on-one consultation, but they ask you to take off your shirt for some reason (it was a female doctor, thank God), just your shirt though--not your bra. So I was sitting there in my bra, and the doctor came to my side to take my blood pressure, and said "Bon, donnez-moi votre bras, s'il vous plait". I was still a little shook up from the X-ray situation and couldn't think straight, and immediately assumed she was asking for me to take off my bra!!! But "bras" is the word for "arms" in French, and she was really just asking for my arm to take my blood pressure. When I reached around to take my bra off, she started laughing and said in English, "No, your arm...!" Can you blame me though?? Geez. C'est marrant, quoi...
