Adventures in Food Land
Dominic will soon be entering the land of food. I'm really excited for him because, well, food is GOOD. I like to eat and really enjoy eating so I think this will be a good adventure.
In preparation for this event I've been trying to acclimate him to food utensil's and his high chair. He seems to be doing well with most of it. His high chair is great because he loves to sit up and the chair supports him well enough that he can do it without my assistance and this seems to make him very happy. The utensil's are not that great. He plays with the cup a bit but seems to have no idea that he can drink from it - I'm not too worried about this. I gave it to him now to get him used to holding it but he won't be developmentally read too drink (meaning suck from the sippy cup nozzle) for another 3ish (or more) months. The spoons didn't go well at first. He didn't like the rubber coating on the spoon when he put it in his mouth (because everything he picks up goes in his mouth right now). I figure this was because he really hates pacifiers and they are rubber/silicon. So, I dipped the spoon into some pumped breast milk and put it in his mouth and he got really excited. I took the spoon back, dipped it the milk again, and he eagerly opened his mouth for the spoon! It was nice to see that feeding him should be easy (I think I'll have to thin everything with beast milk at first). We plan on giving him "real" food once he turns 5 months old so it'll be another 2-3 weeks. Babies can be entertaining at times!
In other baby news, Dominic has taken to squealing all the time now. I have no idea why but his normal "ah-goo" and "ah-gaa" noises have become squeals of delight. It's good that he's excited but I'm hoping he soon takes it down a notch because it's getting loud and piercing! And, he's finally starting to laugh for me. It was so frustrating because he'd laugh for other people and not utter a sound for me but this past week he's stated to give me a few chuckles when I did funny things. Baby laughs are wonderful! =)
