Spider-Man 3 poll ahead!

Major spoilers, so don't look below the cut if you haven't seen it yet!

Poll Spider-Man 3

Reaction to the movie seems to be quite mixed. Reviews aren't great, the nerds are on the rampage at AICN, and when I saw Spider-Man 3 on opening day, you could hear the disappointment in the theater. But then when I saw it again, the audience seemed to be more into it. So, who knows. *shrugs*

Personally, I liked it a lot. I did have some quibbles with it the first time I saw it, but those completely disappeared the second time. I was able to just sit back and enjoy it, and not worry about things like WTF was up with Harry's butler? lol

Perhaps your reaction to this movie depends on whether or not you're a Venom fan? Me, I have a few Spidey comics, but none with Venom, or Sandman for that matter, and I had no issues with how they were portrayed in the movie, or the amount of screentime they got.

But Spectacular Spider-Man #200, the issue where Harry dies, is one of my favorite comics of all time, even though I'm no big Spider-Man collector. It's just a wonderfully written issue, and it was important to me that the spirit of that issue was retained in the movie, and I think they did that well.

I can't decide if I like Spidey 2 or 3 more. Maybe 2 a little bit more? But I will really have to wait and see how well 3 ages for me.

Spidey 1 I didn't like too much when it first came out. But I loved the second one, and over time came to appreciate the first more. I still think 1 is the weakest of the series though.

As far as superhero movies go, I'd say that the Spidey series is one of the best. Although my favorite right now is Batman Begins.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts/dissenting opinions/whatever. ^^

Edited:

miss_daae brings up a good point in her choice for favorite scene, when Harry joins Peter in the fight at the end.

Having read SS #200, I went into this movie expecting (even hoping) that Harry would die at the end. But that scene where he and Peter were fighting side-by-side was so great, so much fun, that it made me regret that they were about to kill him off.

Harry as a hero, in a genuine team-up was so much fun. The fighting, the banter, yeah, you can call it cheesy, but I thought it had real chemistry.

Have we really seen a fun, successful superhero team-up on screen before? Sure the X-Men fight together. But do they really work together and complement each other in a fun way? That's up to personal opinion. The more times goes by, the less I find myself enjoying the X-Men series. But with Harry and Peter together at the end I felt there was a genuine friendship.

And for all the villains of the Spider-Man series, we'd never gotten to see another hero before. I thought Raimi handled it well, he shoots those aerial scenes so fantastically. I really would have liked to see another movie with Harry and Peter as a team.

But as it is, Harry's death was handled well. The preceding scenes just made me realize how much I would like to see a fun superhero team-up on screen, if someone can make it work.

And no, I'm not interested in seeing the new Fantastic Four movie. ;)
