Last night, Emily, my sister, and I went to the midnight premiere of the final Harry Potter movie. We all had to get up early this morning, and then this evening the family and I are heading to visit my grandparents (to check on them, sort of, after my grandma was in the hospital), so we're pretty pooped...but it was so worth it. The experience was amazing. We had such a wonderful theater that cried in unison, laughed in unison, screamed and clapped in unison....hnnng. Someday I'll write up some more coherent thoughts on the movie, but I'm pooped.
Besides, why would you read about it when I can just show you the experience!? Because I couldn't let such a perfect opportunity for an A Day In My Life pass me by.
I tried to keep movie spoilers to a minimum, but this entry does have spoilers for things that happen in the book.
Without further ado, my busy Harry Potter day in 49 pictures total. X-posted to
adayinmylife.
When I got up. My alarm was actually set for later, but I woke up because I was too hot and then I was too hyped up to go back to sleep.
Boot up the computer first thing, of course.
Check the damage. I've been fighting with my skin all week.
Better? I was feeling pretty annoyed about all the acne, hence the weird face.
Broke my fast on Cocoa Krispies and coffee. Why no I haven't been reading too much A Song of Ice and Fire lately what makes you say that
Update my status to mark this auspicious day.
Since Emily is joining us later, it occurs to me that I should probably straighten up.
Some tunes on my semi-new toy. It's not new in the sense that it was my sister's before it was mine, but when she upgraded to a 64 GB one I got this one. It has the same capacity as my trusty old Nano, so I hadn't really done much with it, but apps are fun.
That's better. I mean, she is my roommate, she's certainly used to my messes.
Now I have about 45 minutes before I need to head to the bank and work. What to fill that time with?
Lord of the Rings Online, of course! I've only ever dabbled in free-to-play MMOs, and I'm a casual player and casual fan of LOTR at best, but I really am enjoying this one.
Time check.
I'm not exactly hungry, but I know I'll really regret it later if I go to work with nothing in my stomach but some surgary cereal, so I make the world's tastiest sandwich - colby cheese, wheat bread, turkey, and homemade guacamole from dinner the night before (a friend from church cooked us dinner, since my mom "bought" her for dinner at a charity auction a few months ago).
Rocket is also very interested in my sandwich.
Watch a bit of Say Yes to the Dress on TLC while I nom my sandwich. I have especially loved this show ever since I found out that the fellow that narrates it is the same guy who voices Ezio in the Assassin's Creed series, which I believe I mentioned before. Let that sink a minute. Manly, stabby Ezio - talking about wedding dresses.
All made up and ready for work.
My trusty steed. Well, it's not really mine, per se, but it's essentially mine this summer between my internship and my job. Oh, the crazy car-juggling of this summer.
Make a quick bank stop to deposit last week's paycheck...
And then go here to earn the next one. Joy. Ah well, at least it's only a five hour shift.
Sneaky breakroom picture while I'm on my break at 2:30. Just another 2.5 hours to go!
Finally on my way home!
My arch-nemesis the garage. You see, the garage door is barely wide enough for this big ol' car, and once when I was still pretty new at driving, I rammed the driver's side into the green trim on the garage there. I haven't done that since, but ever since that day, the garage has been my arch-nemesis.
Hi sister! This is her "holy crap Harry Potter tonight" face.
Normally he only does this when he's hungry, but he had already been fed at this point, leading me to conclude that now he just does this because he knows how much it annoys me.
My feet smell. I head into the bathroom to fix this and freshen up in general.
And now it's time to pick my mom up. Remember when I said we're always juggling the cars? She took this little shuttle to and from her work so that my dad could drive the nice car.
After getting Mom, I do some Tumbling...
...and have dinner. These are leftovers of the meal from where the delicious guacamole came from. I mangled it pretty well getting it out of the casserole dish, but it was pretty darn good nevertheless.
I have a bit of quiet time in which I just lay around on my bed and futz around with this thing.
We are so full of nervous energy at this point, waiting for Emily to get here so we can go to the theater, so somehow my sister ends up playing Harvest Moon 64 and I sit around and watch her.
And have another big cup of coffee.
...And go nuts downloading apps in anticipation for the four hour drive to Grandma and Pap's today.
Her "it's almost Harry Potter time" face.
My "it's almost Harry Potter time" face.
Gathering up everything for the night.
Dressed and ready to go.
A close-up of my shirt. I'm happy enough with how it turned out, but I wish I'd had more time/put more thought into it.
Laura's ready to go, too.
And Emily's finally here, yay!
We get to the theater a little after 10. Laura's a little overwhelmed.
Unlike the other few midnight premieres I've been to, they didn't have us wait around in the lobby, but rather were letting people into the theater already. It was a little crowded when we got in, but we got good seats. We definitely got there at a good time - it was packed just half an hour later.
Some appropriate music on my sister's portable iPod speaker thingie.
We wait. And wait. And people-watch. (There were these two guys in pitch-perfect Fred and George Mrs. Weasley sweaters, they were just breaking my heart.) And Emily sleeps a bit.
The "First Look" business comes on around 11:40, and it included this "looking back at Harry Potter"-type segment. A reverent hush fell over the theater. (And yes, the screen really was that over-saturated and weird. Thankfully, the actual film looked fine.)
And the camera stayed away for the movie, I really didn't want to risk it getting confiscated. Afterwards there's a mad rush for the parking lot and the bathrooms.
Post-movie, exhausted emotionally and physically but it was so worth it. I am indeed holding an entire box of tissues, and my face is indeed red and blotchy from crying. I correctly predicted that out of all the tear-jerking moments (and there were many) the epilogue would get me the most. I'm not a huge movie cryer, but that scene made me outright sob. I think it was just the sight of the Hogwarts Express again, and the choice of music during that scene. It was a wonderful nod to the innocence and wonder of the first film/book, and it was kind of like...Harry, Ron, and Hermione grew up, and so did I, but they're okay, so I'm going to be okay too. I don't know, it's a bit hard to explain, but it was very cathartic.
The time when we get home and see Emily off. She had work the next morning, and she only lives about half an hour away, so she decided not to sleepover and went home instead.
In my PJs and washed up. A shower was just going to have to wait. The face was because my sister had to get up at eight a.m. to volunteer at Vacation Bible School the next morning...and I had to get up and drive her.
A few minutes to just breathe and check Facebook.
Gooooood night.
