Chapter 93

Yixing recruits both Sehun and Jongin into the dance club without giving them any room for protests, so Baekhyun elatedly goes to attend the student council staff recruitment with Kyungsoo and Chanyeol.

Arriving at the venue, they find out that the two people in charge of the activity is no other than Luhan who welcomes them with a smile and Yifan who looks like he’s perusing the lists seriously while trying to look cool simultaneously.

This is how they enter through the back door.

Without filling up any forms or attending any interviews, the three of them get added at the top of the list care of Luhan abusing his powers.

More and more hopeful applicants show up for the event, crowding Yifan and Luhan in a corner. Watching their friends getting mobbed, Baekhyun, Chanyeol and Kyungsoo, who have fortunately escaped the tide of people, feel a little terrified.

“Even Yifan hyung is not spared. May God bless them.”

Chanyeol makes a sign of the cross while Kyungsoo looks at the scene with worried eyes. Turning his head, he sees Sehun rushing from afar and jumping into the chaos without hesitation, quickly disappearing in the sea of heads.

“Wow. That’s the power of love!” Chanyeol exclaims in awe. Baekhyun nods solemnly in agreement. Before he can comment, Jongin’s voice reaches his ears. “Hyung.”

Baekhyun turns around and finds Jongin standing behind him with two cups of bubble tea in each hand, his back to the sun, making him look taller.

“Sehun just braved the scary mob.” Baekhyun points in that direction and Jongin nods wordlessly, handing the strawberry-flavoured bubble tea to him. “Hyung, you must be tired. Drink some bubble tea.”

Baekhyun happily puts the straw in his mouth and enjoys his treat.

Too lazy to run to the other end of the campus to buy, Kyungsoo can only stare at Baekhyun enviously. Similarly, Chanyeol watches Baekhyun chew his tapioca pearls and finally gives in to temptation and asks for a sip.

Of course, Baekhyun doesn’t mind sharing, handing the cup to the taller boy. This is blocked by Jongin midway so Chanyeol can only shrink to the other side in self-pity.

After a while, they finally see Sehun squeezing out of the crowd, arm protectively around Luhan. The older boy obediently leans on him, face covered in sweat and full of gratitude at having been rescued.

“So you two abandoned Yifan hyung in that horrifying place?” Kyungsoo asks when Sehun and Luhan flop down under the cool shade of the tree where the others have been waiting. “Won’t Yifan hyung get trampled on?”

“It’s Yifan hyung’s fault for still trying to look cool while we were fighting for survival.” Sehun says without a hint of sympathy.

Luhan agrees automatically. “Yes, he looks like he’s dressed for a fashion show. It’s no wonder the ladies all mobbed him crazily.”

“For Yifan hyung, image is everything. Okay, fine, besides Yixing hyung, image is everything to him.”

The gang happily talks about Yifan behind his back, not the least bit concerned for his well-being. Sipping his bubble tea, Baekhyun remembers something out of the blue, turning to face Jongin. “How was the dance club? Did you and Sehun do well?”

“Yixing hyung brought Sehun and me to a room and asked us to dance. After that, he said we could leave.” Jongin answers.

“When we got out of the room, the line of people auditioning already went all the way to the staircase.” Sehun remembers painfully. “As we walked past then, girls were grabbing our arms. I heard them say something like ‘so handsome’.”

Baekhyun shoots Jongin a look, and Luhan does the same to Sehun.

“We… We didn’t get taken advantage of.” Jongin understands what Baekhyun’s look means instantly, raising his hands in surrender. Baekhyun glances at the Jongin’s arms exposed because of his sleeveless shirt, graceful and well-toned, the bronze colour slightly shimmering under the sun. Eyes landing on the dancer’s broad shoulders and long legs, Baekhyun expresses distrust. Who wouldn’t want to take advantage of you when they see you? When girls see you two, they would most definitely jump you.

Jongin is just about to raise his hands higher and swear to God - actually, he’ll be swearing to Baekhyun since Baekhyun is his God.

Luhan’s eyes don’t leave Sehun. The younger boy narrates bitterly: “Honestly, we were pretty lucky already. Every time that Jongin was about to be caught, he’d push me forward, and vice versa.”

“Then how did you two get out?” Luhan thinks it’s almost impossible.

“Yixing hyung shouted from inside the room that Sehun and I are both spoken for and that the girls should have some self-respect.” Jongin says, finding it especially funny. At the same time, they hear Yifan’s low voice through the speaker amidst the girls’ screams.

“Please control yourselves. I’m spoken for already.”

At first, they have planned to just leave Yifan to fend for himself in the mob, but their noble sense of responsibility convinces them to stay and continue laughing at Yifan instead. They wait until two in the afternoon, but still no sign of Yifan joining them for lunch.

So they sit under the tree, eating the lunch boxes that Sehun and Jongin have bought for them. It’s worth mentioning that Chanyeol and Kyungsoo have bought their own meals.

After an hour, the crowd of girls has started to thin and they finally see Yifan, wearing a long white trench coat, emerge and approach them - suave, chic, indescribably handsome, yet eyes looking very dazed.

When Yifan sees his friends seated in a row with their food, he runs over like he has seen oasis in a desert. But remembering his image, he leans coolly on the tree, eyes closed like he’s in deep thought.

“Are you okay, Yifan hyung?” Kyungsoo asks kindly.

Yifan opens his eyes and looks at him sorrowfully, saying: “This world is just so unbelievable. The girls get crazier every batch! I almost died back there! Who told you to laugh? All of you! Stop it or else I’ll strangle all of you! You’re not allowed to laugh. Wait, where’s my food?”

Chapter 94

Luhan and Sehun have the same problem.

Similarly, Jongin and Sehun also have the same problem.

But to clarify, the problems these two groups are facing are different.

Actually, before the three others have entered university, Luhan has already been facing this problem for a long time. However, only when Sehun joins him in university does he realize that the situation is more serious than he has imagined.

On the other hand, Baekhyun has no idea about this problem’s existence. He only starts feeling something strange is going on when he encounters more than five guys trying to proposition him on the way to class with Chanyeol.

“I have never experienced this in senior high.” Baekhyun puzzles over it.

“In first year of senior high, everyone was still young. In second year, anyone who even thought about trying to get near you got driven away by Jongin through different methods.” Chanyeol shares regrettably what he has heard from Sehun.

“Oh… Is that so?” Baekhyun doesn’t understand. “I thought…”

“Look at how petite and dainty you look! Do you expect everyone to think that you’re burly and strong? How do you expect people not to take notice of you?” Chanyeol doesn’t hold back. “Or else, how would Jongin have fallen for you at first sight?”

Baekhyun brings this problem over to Luhan, wanting his advice. In the end, he finds out that the older boy’s situation was much worse before Sehun entered university. It’s a good thing that he had the intimidating Wu Yifan around him to alleviate the circumstances a little bit.

On the contrary, as the dance club’s school performances increase, Jongin and Sehun, as freshmen and new recruits, have already become very popular.

Their fan clubs, organized by their female classmates, grow by the number as they provide support for the two that could match up to how it’s being done for idols in the music industry.

Baekhyun gets a whole pile of letters from their mailbox and stars sorting them on Jongin’s bed.

Majority of the letters from guys are for Baekhyun, while majority of the letters from the girls are for Jongin.

After organizing for what feels like hours, a week’s worth of letters form one large and thick deck.

Baekhyun holds his arms to his chest, deep in thought. His own letters don’t matter, but what about Jongin’s deck? Does he have the right to throw them out for Jongin? It doesn’t feel right. But he feels unhappy not doing anything about them.

Jongin comes home just in time.

He enters their room, backpack slung over his shoulder, wearing a tight black best and a jacket on one arm. He has just gotten back from dance practice so he’s sweating profusely, hair messy and clothes wet, looking sinfully sexy.

Baekhyun glances at Jongin and imagines the dancer walking around campus looking this attractive. He knows intuitively just how many people, especially girls, would be defenseless against Jongin’s unassuming air of sexiness.

He feels something raging inside of him all of a sudden. He tosses the letters on the bed and walks out of the room in a huff.

“Hyung?”

Jongin sees Baekhyun ignoring him and walking straight across the hall to Chanyeol and Sehun’s room. The former drops his backpack on the floor and chases after Baekhyun.

Baekhyun enters the room and sees Sehun, almost in the same condition as Jongin, changing out of his sweaty clothes.

Seeing the shorter boy, Chanyeol runs over and hugs him happily. This doesn’t last long since Jongin is there to quickly detach the older boy from Baekhyun, as expected. Jongin wants to wrap the latter in his arms instead, but decides not to since he’s still very sweaty.

Baekhyun interrogates Sehun who is just about to enter the bathroom for a quick shower. “Did you two get attacked on your way back here?”

Sehun blinks, glancing at Jongin and assessing Baekhyun who looks somewhat pissed. Something clicks in his mind and he understands what’s happening. “Ah, a little, I guess. There were a few girls with ‘Kim Jongin, I love you’ banners chasing after us.”

Baekhyun’s face darkens but Jongin’s face looks worse.

“Why aren’t you saying that those girls were screaming your name and almost fainted in tears?” He asks Sehun accusingly, annoyed at being singled out.

“Because I don’t think that’s relevant to the people in this room.” Sehun answers calmly and enters the bathroom.

Seeing the expressions on their faces, Chanyeol lies on his bed and pretends to read.

Jongin pulls Baekhyun’s arm and leads him out. Baekhyun follows, feeling a multitude of emotions in his chest.

Wasn’t he the one who told Jongin before that if they’re together, they shouldn’t doubt each other at all and learn to trust and love one another?

Then why is he now full of unanticipated insecurity? Also, why is Kim Jongin attracting so many girls and not him?

Jongin tugs Baekhyun into their room and sees the two equally tall decks of letters on his bed.

Jongin’s eyes focus on Baekhyun’s deck first and he turns around to glance at Baekhyun, a little bewildered. Seeing the dancer looking unhappy, Baekhyun points to the other deck in defense. He says: “Why don’t you look at your own deck first before you condemn me? Look at this one with the pink hearts! There probably are pictures inside. And this…”

Jongin shuts Baekhyun up with a kiss.

Heat is still emanating from Jongin’s body because of dance practice earlier. Baekhyun thinks it’s like having a fireball stuck in his chest as he smells a mixture of Jongin’s signature scent and sweat. Then he feels Jongin bite his tongue.

“Hmm?” Baekhyun responds incoherently. It could probably be translated as an unhappy ‘what the hell are you doing?’

Jongin bites Baekhyun’s lower lip, gentler this time. After that, he murmurs: “Baekhyun hyung, are you jealous?”

Baekhyun is about to deny vehemently when Jongin deepens the kiss, making the shorter boy swallow his words.

When Jongin gets out of the bathroom after his shower, Baekhyun is still not over it. He is quick to clarify his stand: “I am not jealous!”

Jongin thinks Baekhyun looks so adorable when he’s pissed and says: “Baekhyun hyung, weren’t you the one you said that we should trust each other and be good together?”

“Yes! That’s why I’m not jealous!” Baekhyun insists.

“Fine, Baekhyun hyung, you’re not jealous. I’m the one who’s jealous. Okay? It’s only because you received so many love letters.” Jongin appeases the older boy. Seeing that he’s still annoyed, Jongin walks over to pull him into an embrace.

“Baekhyun hyung…”

Baekhyun squirms a little, trying to look like he’s being open-minded but failing miserably.

Jongin grabs Baekhyun’s hand and places it on his left chest - he hasn’t forgotten the last time he embarrassed himself while confessing to Baekhyun. He says with a smile: “Baekhyun hyung, you have to know that when you moved in here three years ago, I had no intentions of letting you go. So even if you make noises, throw tantrums, or even start a fire and toss a bomb, I’m not letting you out of here.”

“So what you mean is I’m trapped in your heart for eternity?” Baekhyun glances at him, laughing out loud, unsure if it’s because of yet another one of Jongin’s awkward confessions or the feeling of warmth and security from Jongin’s palm.

“Yes, as long as I live, you’ll be here. I daresay even until the next lifetime, or the lifetime after that, you still won’t be able to leave.”
