I owe Leah a huge debt of gratitude for making sure that I got to go to Canada over Christmas. It was a really great visit - I got to see lots of family and friends, and miraculously there was no arguing or stress with my mom. It's really disorienting sometimes to feel so close to someone and so far away at the same time. I mean... we talk every day, generally for several hours by the time all the phone and computer chatting is added together. 6 months ago, a very wise person who we thought was simply drunk and silly, yelled at us in the middle of a crowded dance floor "you'll have to take her with you" and went on about knowing how the people in her family work and that you can't mess with their hearts... or something like that.
