Disclaimer: The story and the characters belong to Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios. This is written purely for fun and I make no financial profit by writing this.
Author’s Note: I have no idea what was so capturing about the new Thor movie. The plot itself was rather old: an arrogant but hot young man has to learn manners, which he does after befriending some awesome people and falling in infatuation with some pretty but intelligent chick. As for the relationship between Thor and Jane, it’s shallow at best, but perhaps that’s what made me write this. I wanted to add some flesh on the bones. The idea itself is interesting, I have to confess, and often I am a sucker for the mortal/immortal stories. So this just had to happen.
This is no literary masterpiece, but rather written for my own personal fun and want to explore some of this god/human -stuff. The chapters and the story itself will be rather short, as this is pretty much just a glance on what might have happened after Thor left Earth. It’s all my imagination an un-canonical. This is just a small piece of romance and little bit of fluff. Hope you enjoy it as much I enjoyed writing it.

Chapter 1
Now moving on
Departing so soon, so soon, so soon
Oh, I'd like to stay with you
But there are no angels no more
No angels no more
- No Angels No More by Dreamtale
Perfect, she thought as she tossed and turned in her bed. Just absolutely perfect.
There were near 7 billion people on this planet. Heck, alone in US there were over 300 millions of them. And Jane Foster had to fall for a guy who was 1) currently God knew how many lightyears away from her and 2) not even human.
Thor. Yes, that was his name. The stupid name of that stupid, easygoing, stupidly handsome guy whom people had believed to be the god of thunder.
Idiot, Jane accused herself. What the hell was wrong with her? Obviously something was, at least - one simply could not be sane if one could not find a boyfriend from amongst her own race!
Boyfriend. Don’t you think you are making a tiny little exaggeration there?
It had been over a month since he had disappeared and left to save the world, or something like that. First weeks she had spent furiously in the middle of her research, but as the time went by and there was no sign of him, Jane could not help but begin to think.
It was not that she was like Erik, her colleague. Erik never approved of anything until he saw it with his own two eyes. She was the one to suspend her belief, the one to dream about wondrous possibilities. But then, in her very core, she was a scientist after all, trained to think rationally and with reason. Maybe that was why her mind began to race and question herself.
Thor had promised to return, but it was over a month ever since she had last seen him. And, after all, it was not like she really knew him. If you barely knew somebody, how could you love them?
That was her problem. She had no idea what she felt for this superhuman guy and it was driving her crazy. There had been attraction, true - he was, after all, a rather goodlooking fellow and from what she had seen, she was sure there was a noble soul under that easy grin of his. That much could be deduced from the way he had just walked to face the Destroyer, unarmed and mortal, to give his life so that the others would not be hurt.
Sure, she missed him. She wanted to see him again. A big part of it was the fact that she needed to figure out what was this thing between them, and if it was worth pursuing. But then again, he lived on another goddamn planet. And she had seen some of the stuff he could do. She was so out of his league. He was a god, after all! Yet he had seemed so... not-god. So easy to talk to, to be around, almost like a normal guy... Well, at least when he had not been smashing mugs and calling himself the son of Odin. She knew he must be quite old, yet there had been youthfulness and easiness about him - except for when the action started.
He had promised to return. But who knew why he had said those words? Maybe he had just made that promise in the spur of the moment. After all, he had just gotten back his powers - that must have been quite an exhilarating experience for him. He was the son of Odin, the mightiest warrior of Asgard and a handsome man. She would be an idiot to think there was not some lady waiting for him back in his home. Or several ladies. And none of them as awkward as Jane felt like. She was just an ordinary lab geek. Why would a guy like him take interest in someone like her? Maybe he had already forgotten all about her and hurried off to another adventure. Then again, he was not someone who would break his promise, she knew it. He might have been a bit arrogant, but he was also honest. Thor was not someone for pretentions.
The other option was that he had not survived the battle against Loki. The thought was terrifying. She could not think of the possibility of him dying - she had almost had to go through that once, and she did not want to experience that despair again - so she tried to reassure herself and just hope for the best. Maybe he was just busy right now. He would keep his promise, wouldn’t he?
The alarm clock chose that moment to ring out and feeling somewhat dizzy from all the lack of sleep Jane just wanted to break the damn thing. But she held her temper and crawled out from her bed.
Now that she was working with and for S. H. I. E. L. D., Jane could very well have afforded buying a real apartment. But somehow she had grown attached to her small trailer and she was still dithering (even though Darcy did her best to convince Jane to move out). Some part of her mind said it was because she was clinging to any memories of him, and that particular one, Thor carrying Erik from their trip to bar, was rather dear to her. She could still very well remember how he had seemed to take all the space in the trailer - it had almost been a bit amusing. After that, they had sat outside and he had told of his home, and Jane had felt the sparks flying... Nothing had happened, of course, but she still could feel a bit excited about how he had looked at her, with those intense blue eyes of his...
Yawning magnificently, Jane began to make herself ready for another day of work and research. She had only said that to Darcy, but part of her motivation was now to find him. But even then, even if she did find Asgard on the vast plains of space, what could she do? Even Tony Stark did not have the kind of technology to reach that distant place Thor was now in. But she could dream. At least she would then have something to hold on, something tangible. Whether she would see him again now depended on him.
Darcy might often come across as almost air-headed, what with how she did not seem to take matters all that seriously. With the way she sometimes seemed to almost drive Jane crazy, it was easy to forget how perceptive Darcy could be. During the time she had spent with Jane and Erik, Darcy had become to know Jane very well and seemed to be able to deduce Jane’s thougths with a single glance. That was the case this morning, as Jane dragged herself to work. It was not that she did not like her work - as a matter of fact, she loved it, especially now that she had all the resources of S. H. I. E. L. D. on her side - but a good night of sleep would have made it much easier to wake up on morning.
“Rough night?” Darcy asked when Jane collapsed by her work station.
“Yeah. I couldn’t sleep”, Jane answered and rubbed her eyes. She probably needed yet another cup of coffee to fully wake up.
Darcy came to sit by her desk, an un-characteristically concerned look on her face.
“You were thinking about him again, weren’t you?” she asked. Jane knew there was no use in rejecting it, and after all, why would she? Darcy was, after all, a very good friend - something she might not have believed when they had first met.
Jane merely nodded and leaned back in her chair. Darcy sighed and crossed her arms on her chest.
“You know, there’s no sense in moping around forever. Let’s face it, Jane - you barely know him and we don’t know when, or if, he is coming back”, Darcy pointed out and the other woman gave her a glare.
“Do you think I have not considered that myself?” she asked, angrier than she had intended. Darcy lifted her hands as if in defense.
“Calm down, Jane. I just mean that... well, maybe you should live a little. Try and find a boyfriend and go little crazy - things like that. I’m sure Thor would not mind”, she insisted, but that only earned a frown from Jane.
“I get the feeling he actually might mind”, Jane commented. “And I don’t want to have some poor guy get a blow from Mjolnir when Thor starts minding.”
“Really, he wouldn’t do that. After all, he can’t expect you to spend the rest of your life pining for him. Plus I am tired of watching you mope around all the damn time”, Darcy said and jumped on her feet. “I don’t expect you to order some Russian wife from the Internet right away. Just think about it, okay?”
“Sure, sure. Now go away. I have work to do”, Jane commanded and turned towards her PC.
After couple of cups of coffee Jane felt a bit better and was actually very much engrossed by her work when slight commotion in the workspace woke her up. By the looks of it, guys from S. H. I. E. L. D. had come over, and one of them was talking with Erik. It looked like these people never went anywhere alone: even now there was couple of guys in the monkey suits - agents, like Erik always corrected Darcy. The other of them was throwing glances at her direction.
He was rather young for a high class agent, with somewhat boyish face, dark brown hair and green eyes. He had a very pleasant face with even features, high cheekbones and easy smile that reminded Jane very much of Thor. Noticing she had seen him, the stranger grinned and approached her desk with a warm smile.
“So, you are the famous Jane Foster! That Thor guy’s girl!” he announced airily, but Jane just stared stonily at him. She did not where to begin - to address to the fact she very much wanted him gone or that it did not only offend her as a professional person, but also as a woman that he identified her as some man’s property. Her silence made his smile crack a bit, but before she had time to speak up, he already continued.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, I should have introduced myself - please forgive me. I am Jim - Jim Sandels. I have only just joined S. H. I. E. L. D. and it’s so exciting! You see, my dad - he knows agent Coulson and he promised me a job here, and I’ve gotta say it’s like a dream like true! Nothing like the special squad I used to serve back in- but oh, almost forgot, we are not actually supposed to talk about it. Top secret, you know!” the man babbled happily while Jane just stared quietly at him. Who was this guy? It was rather clear he was new to this S. H. I. E. L. D. stuff, as Jane did not remember meeting other agents who were so... enthusiastic.
“Really? That is utterly fascinating”, she muttered when he fell silent - probably to take a breath for another surge of words. He did not seem to catch her cool tone but carried on talking about how much he loved his new job, until one of his colleagues called for his attention.
“Agent Sandels! We’re leaving!”
“Oh! I’m coming”, the young man answered and then turned to flash one last grin towards Jane. “Well, I need to be going. It was nice to meet you!”
“Likewise”, she answered, but he was already off. Jane turned back towards her PC and let out a deep breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding. What a guy!
“Jane, did you just have some serious interaction with a dude?” Darcy asked not a long after. Dear Heavens, would she have no peace this day?!
“’Serious interaction’? What on earth are you talking about, Darcy?” Jane asked incredulously. Her assistant rolled her eyes.
“You so need to get laid, Jane! Didn’t you see how he was looking at you?” Darcy pointed out.
“Oh, please. I so don’t need another guy in my life right now”, Jane muttered and started to organize her desk like she always did when she became stressed.
“I think that’s exactly what you need. I mean, a human guy”, Darcy said and lifted her eyebrows. “This is exactly what we were talking about earlier!”
“When did you become such a pimp?” Jane muttered and frowned.
“Ever since I had to watch you pine after you-know-who every day of my life”, Darcy answered sweetly.
“Please remind me, why do I put up with you?” Jane asked tiredly.
“Because I am just that awesome an assistant”, Darcy answered, again wandering off.
Gathering the last remnants of her focus Jane tried once again to concentrate on her work, but soon she realized it was a futile attempt. Her mind was too full and too tired for her to get done any real work. She needed rest and she needed to get her mind off of him.
Saving the work she had done until then, Jane jumped up from her place.
“I’m calling it a day. You in a mood for some tequila, Darcy?” she asked, knowing couple of drinks would be the best way to try and forget about Thor for a while. Jane rarely drank but sometimes it was just absolutely necessary.
“You bet I am!” Darcy commented with a grin, and the two women left the lab and Erik who was shaking his head in a way that could have only been called fatherly.
