Nothing very special happening here.
Just the usual - studies, occasional encounters with friends, thinking about my stories, books when I really shouldn't be reading them... Last weekend pretty much was spent just hanging around. I was still a bit sick, so I stayed home, watched some movies and finally started the third season of X-files. I still remember how I watched some episodes of it with my brother when we still were kids - it was scary as hell, but I couldn't help but watch it. It's kind of fun when I see an episode I've seen before, and actually understand it like I wouldn't as a kid.
As for books, I read Sofi Oksanen's Purge in about couple days. It was kind of slow in the beginning, but when you get a hold of the story, the book is almost impossible to put down. The protagonists are kind of... unusual, I might say. Sometimes they seemed even a bit flat, but mostly they were also very real. The book itself is powerful, even shocking, and Oksanen writes in this incredibly calm way about shocking things, like rape. Once you had finished the book, it was hard not to think about it. One friend even said she had seen nightmares about it. I've long wondered whether the book is worth all the hype it has gotten here in Finland, but reading it pretty much proved that it does earn the attention it has gotten. Oksanen seems to be a very talented writer.
I'm currently waiting for a package to arrive from an Internet book shop. I ordered three books: J. A. Lindqvist's Let The Right One In, a book on Native American stories and W. B. Yeats' The Celtic Twilight. I can't wait for the package to arrive!
As for my own projects, I think I've gotten an awesome idea. I won't go very deeply into it, but lets just say it has a lot to do with Sampo (from Finnish epic Kalevala) - but perhaps in a bit different way one might except.
