1. I got new glasses. This is quite the occasion (it's been maybe ten years, I think?). I went to the eye doctor for new contact lenses and she told me that contacts can't get me to 20/20 vision, but glasses can. I was kinda hoping for a contact/glasses combo to wear when I use the computer. I know my vision has been getting more and more of the suck lately. But I love my blue colored lenses. I don't like how I look with my normal brown eyes. But anyway, I ordered new contact lenses and then picked out glasses. I figured I would try to wear them more often. And throughout the first day of wearing the new glasses, I realized that I love them, and I am OK with my boring brown eye color. So, I may become a new, glasses-wearing Aly. Still haven't decided completely yet, though. However, I have to go back today because there is a big scratch type thing in the middle of the right lens. It makes things look a bit weird from some angles. I hope they can fix it. Also, I never realized that you have to clean your glasses like a THOUSAND times a day. Jeez!
2. I start my new job on Monday. Over two weeks ago, I started haggling with them about my starting salary. The job is only a grade 11, which would have been a rather large drop in salary for me. However, our department has unlimited overtime, which would mean I could make much more than my old job, if I do at least a few hours a week. But what if the overtime ends from budget cuts or something? So I argued, faxed over my W2 and my current pay statements, and waited. They FINALLY made a decision and got back to me yesterday. I had to prove that I was superiorly qualified for the position, and it had to be approved by a review board. The result? They gave me the HIGHEST step, a step 10. Wow! Plus I get a 10% pay differential, because I am on the night shift. The result is that even without overtime, I will be making $7000 more than my last job. Yeah!!! It makes me feel much more confident going in there on Monday. Superiorly qualified! Yes!
3. I bought four new suits. I am in love with them. One of them is at the tailor's so the pants can be hemmed. This is unusual. I'm glad that companies are finally making pants that are long enough. I'm only 5'7" - pants should fit taller girls, you know? I also bought a completely gorgeous new Coach bag at the Kittery outlets in Maine. It was marked down from $400 to only $128. There was only one, and the saleswoman said it was a return so it was marked way down. I think she wanted it, because she seemed a little sad when she rung it up for me. My sister and I were practically whooping with joy. I don't think she was amused.
4. I forgot my camera and didn't take any pictures on my trip. Eye=suck. My mom took a few, but it will take me about an hour on the phone in order for her to e-mail at least one of them to me. I love my mom, but she is so computer illiterate it's amazing. I wonder if there was a switch at the hospital or something. I don't resemble anyone in my family, pretty much in any way. Weird.
5. I still miss you guys! I've been so busy running errands this week that I haven't had much down time for LJ reading. I also miss porn. I need some slash ASAP.
I'm off to the mall to the eye doctor place and to buy some dreaded nylons. A necessary evil. So what are you all up to? If I find my camera I'll try to post pictures later.
