An interesting week

Well, its been one heck of an interesting week, thats for sure. There were ups, downs, and even some run-arounds. My entire week could be put into work stuff and things at home as well as the good and bad stuff. Starting with work, there was some good this week. My one-to-one, Tiny, was out for the hoildays on Tuesday and Wednesday and then was out Thursday and Friday cause he was sick. I ended up having a nice quiet week in that sence. I also got to work with another little girl this week, "Lisa", cause her one-to-one aid went home sick on Tuesday and I took over. She is such a sweetheart and a pleasure to work with. The Skeleton Parade was also this week. I got the costumes made in record time on Wednesday with some help from Jill, one of my co-workers. Even though there were only two kids present to participate in the parade, we still had a great time with it.

On the flip side, there were a couple of interesting things that happened at work. For starters, we got a new student in the class. Not that big of a concern usually, but this student hasnt been in school since August (cause his family made a big move across the country) and has the same syndrom as my pal from last year that I worked with. On top of it all, we're not getting any additional help in the classroom for this student, when he really needs someone to be with him (just like how my buddy had me last year). We were told to work around it so its going to be tough for a while until this new student gets used to the schedule and routeen, plus all the other TA's are used to working with him around. Only way this child effects me is that he's going to be my "problem" during recess. I heard he doesnt like to come in from the playground which causes me a problem since I got my friend Tiny to worry about. This should be interesting.

Also on the intersting side at work, I have to give credit to the principal for finding a "great" way to include the students in the Halloween show next week. Cause my friend Tiny is in a wheelchair, he needs to use the lift to get up on the stage, and the same goes for two other students in the school. Problem is, we really cant use the lift during the show cause the students in the school will be sitting where the lift needs to be positioned next to the stage to be used. We were informed thru the music teacher that the principal said there would not be enough time to use the lift and that we need to get our students on stage before the show and they'll have to listen to the show in the Music Room (which is behind the stage) when they're not on stage preforming. Thats just stupid! So I though about it and came up with a solution to the problem. We'll do what the principal wants, and get the students on the stage before the show starts. However, no one said they need to be in those chairs the entire show. We're going to bring the students down in their walkers and let them watch the show in them. When its their turn to go on stage, we'll just bring them to the music room and carry them up the stairs to their wheelchairs for their turns, and return them to their walkers after their turn. That way at least they'll get to watch the show. Should be an interesting Monday.

At the home front, things have been extremly quiet. Spent a lot of time in front of the tv watching whatever is on at the moment. Did a little bit of Christmas shopping on Thursday afternoon with my mom, getting things for my grandma. Food shopping on Tuesday that too so long that we missed picking dad up at the train and he had to walk home. Oops! Also got word that family friends down in Florida are doing okay after the newest hurricane smacked Florida. That's about it though for whats been going on around here. No new job leads yet to point out so I'll leave it at that for the next postie I write.
