Of Lake Toya and Seagulls.
Much the same as the previous few days, the lonely travellers wake up and breakfasted in the train on the way to Toya. The lonely travellers started out only with a vauge sense that there are some mountains and lakes at Toya to see so off they go. They have no maps and little information about the place but they had faith in the visitor centre there.
There wasn't much during the train ride. Just the usual, psp and ipod entertainment.
The Toya station.
The streets of Toya
When they got there they took the usual phamplets and papers that's left for travellers and visitors. So it was decided that they go to Lake Toya. The only way was by bus.
On the bus.
The other lonely traveller was trying to take a picture of this lonely traveller but at that angle obvious all she got was the top of her head.
Lake Toya stop
And thus began the search for Toya's visitor's centre. The lonely travellers saw that there was a visitor centre at Lake Toya but all they saw was the OLD visitor centre. As they searched for the visitor centre, they picked random directions to walk down.
Then they saw the Lake. and suddenly the visitor centre didn't seems so important.
A statue near the Lake. Around the lake there are about 70+ - 80 statues.
The whole Lake area was like a so much nicer east coast park. No bicylces but it was great just to stroll and enjoy the lake breeze.
As they strolled they spotted a foot bath which they later tried. (more on that later)
So the lonely travellers went shutter crazy.
A bee on lavender?
Wild? flowers along the trail.
Posing with the saxophone player
The lonely travellers wanted to make a circuit of the entire lake but obviously it wasn't possible. the entre diameter is 68 km? This lonely traveller cannot remember but most of the diameter is alongside a road with no pathways which makes walking hard and dangerous so that idea was abandoned.
THe long long trail.
So it was decided that the lonely travellers should try the lake cruise. Since there were islands in the middle of the lake.
So they turned around and headed back towards the place where they started out. The ship tickets can be brought from a small station there. At that point in time, the lonely travellers were already feeling the pinch in their pockets after the first otaru trip. They told each other if the tickets for the cruise was going to be 3000 yen they'll give up on the idea.
Another one of the statue along the trail.
Luckily for them, it was only 1000 yen. So they waited around since they had just missed the ship.
As the lonely travellers waited they snapped more pictures.
And they speculated about the whereabouts of the elusive visitor's centre. Above is the main suspect. the lonely travellers believed that it might be the visitor's centre since it was located at the top of a mountain. but it wasn't never confirmed.
Before long, the lonely travellers boarded the ship and off they go.
All of them were taken on the way to the main island.
It was a short crusise about 10 - 15 minutes or so. And soon the lonely travellers reached land.
What greeted us were swans.
Flowers
and deers.
Lots of them and all of them waiting to be fed by people. Deers eat biscuits. They don;t eat grass.
After having fun with the deers, the lonely travellers proceeded to explore the island.
The lonely travellers had initially wanted to go walk the nature trails on the island but they found the gate that leads to the route locked. So there goes that idea.
And so they explored what other things they could that's not locked away.
These flowers are hard to take. For one thing, the lake breeze wouldn't stop blowing and half the shots were just plain blur.
Another jetty that's locked off.
This lonely traveller collected Lake Toya water from the main island.
The view from the main island is just excellent.
Note to other lonely traveller, this lonely traveller thinks that the view here was as good as if not better than Shizuoka's
And soon enough the island was completed explored as much as the travellers could anyway. so it was time to head back to the other side.
That's the ship. That thing that looks like a castle.
On the way back, the ship was trailed or rather chased by...
seagulls.
Note: These pictures are not black and white. They are just like that.
The passengers on the ships were tossing food to the seagulls and the entire flock was just all around the ship. They swooped in skillfully to snatch the food out of the air or the water.
And some were even just hovering just above the lonely travellers' heads.
Which accounts for the excellent shots of the undernearth of a seagull. hahaha...
Once the lonely travellers managed to tear their attentions away from the seagulls, they go back to snapping pictures of mountains and water.
This lonely tarveller would like to just pretend that that mountain is Mt FUji.
Still having a living subject for the picture is more attractive than a thing.
Thus self entertainment.
But still nature provides.
And so the lonely travellers reached land again. They went back to the food bath to try it out. The water was hot but after a while, the lonely travellers got used to it. This lonely traveller throughly enjoyed the foot bath but the other lonely traveller didn't enjoy it very much. She had leg cramps after using the foot bath.
Those were all taken after the foot bath. The lonely travellers made their way back to the bus station and took a bus back to the train station. There they waited for the rapid train service so they hang around the supermarket there and just strolled around but most shops close early. Even the supermarket closes at 7pm.... This lonely traveller wonder how the working parents buy food for the family. Soon it was time for the train and they departed.
Stock take for day 6. A bottle of Toya water, One Piece Comic and an anklelet or bracklet from Toya main island.
