Day 5 - of climbing mountains in berms.

The lonely travellers are onto their fifth day of their Japan holiday. Next stop on their packed itinary was Asahikawa. They headed towards Sapporo Station with the sun blazing down on them and the weather just excellent.

So they hoped onto the rapid express train towards Asahikawa. The ride was about 1 hour 20 mins or so.

Excellent weather =

Excellent photos =

Shutter crazy travellers =

Annoyed fellow passengers?

All of the above were taken on the way to Asahikawa. While this lonely traveller whiled away the time by being a nusiance to others. The other lonely traveller was...

Playing her PSP - Taiko no Tatsujin 1

And when the other lonely traveller manages a full combo on a song...

The lonely traveller gives her victory sign...

And this lonely traveller continued to be shutter crazy.

Note how freakin' nice is the weather. And this lonely traveller didn't touch up these photos this time. hehe

And the lonely travellers finally arrived at Asahikawa.

One of the few pictures where the lonely travellers are actually in the same frame together.

Kid standing near the exit of the station.

They proceeded straight to Asahikawa ANimate which was just next to the station of all branches the lonely travellers have been to in Hokkaido. This branch has the best stuff. After spending some customary money at Animate. The lonely travellers headed to this visitor centre just next to the station. there was this nice old man who speaks good english. He pointed out the way to Asahidake (highest mountain in Hokkaido) and he provided some weird travelling tips (if it can be called that) as well.

So the lonely travellers walked over to the bus stop and waited for the bus.

This lonely traveller is just dying from the heat. But after Tokyo she wouldn't do that anymore.

The bus came right on time. We boarded and settle in for 40 - 60 mins ride.

These pictures are taken from the bus as the lonely travellers headed towards the mountain. Note the continued good weather.

So after 40 - 60 mins the bus let the lonely travellers off at the foot of Mt. Asahidake. It was then the lonely travellers started noticing the difference in their clothings as opposed to the others. Everyone else was in full hiking gear complete with all weather clothings and walking stick and cow bell. ( The cow bell is usually tied to their bag or walking stick so that their companions can search for them or fellow them based on the sound only when the mist is thick) Other than the odd person or two in berms, the lonely travellers were the only ones in berms and t-shirts.... Luckily for them they got their jackets with them. On a side note, this lonely traveller did saw someone climbing the mountain in mini skirt and heels....

The next thing they noticed were the numerous HUGE dragonflies around.

This is one such specimen.

The lonely travellers brought the tickets for the ropeway ride to bring them up to mid-way of the mountain. The ride is just TEN MINUTES.... and it cost the lonely travellers 3000 yen (if this lonely traveller didn't remember wrongly) that's about $40....

So while they waited for the ropeway, they took a stroll around the place.

See those clouds? Those clouds appeared when the lonely travellers reached the foot of the mountain....

Later the lonely travellers found a pathway leading towards who knows where. They decided to brave the trail.

That sign there at the side says "Beware of bears." The other lonely traveller was looking forward to meeting one but this lonely traveller isn't.

And soon it was up the ropeway they go.

These were taken on the way up from the ropeway car.

The view from the other end of the ropeway ride.

The lonely travellers got out of the station and they found...

ICE OR SNOW? Either way it was cold up there. It was supposed to be 7.5 degrees at the peak.

By then the lonely travellers didn't have much time to dally as they have to catch the last bus leaving Mt. Asahidake which was around 5+pm.  but still the shutter bug in them just couldn't help but stand around and snap pictures.

And since they have already got to the mid way point of the mountain they couldn't stand around. So the lonely travellers decided to head up towards the peak and go as far as they could.

The way was rocky,

uneven,

steep at times,

and scary most of the time.

Then they spotted wildlife. A wild rabbit. Initially spotted by a Japanese mother who then screamed for her family to watch and so the lonely travellers got to see it too.

and then it was on with the trail.

Now this stairs of rock was hard. Each step was quite a height away from each other. The rocks have a tendency of sliding once you put your weight on it. So going up was hard, coming down was worse...

A couple from (the lonely travellers had forgot to ask) somewhere that had helped the lonely travelelrs to take a photo of them and the lonely travellers returned the favour.

The lonely travellers treked about 2 km up the mountain to this lake

Though there were still trails leading upwards the travellers had to head down to the ropeway again.

Going down there was no pictures cause the lonely travellers had their hands full trying to not slip fall and die. So no pictures.
The lonely travellers got down to the foot of the mountain in one piece. they broaded the bus and headed back to Asahikawa.

These were taken from the bus and train ride back towards Sapporo.

Stock take for the day. Two braclets from Mt. Asahidake. 5 handphone accersories for the office. Two keychains from animate. Free Mountain toilet from Mt. Asahidake and our tickets for Larc concert.
