More Fan Related Initiatives to Save Almost Human

May 02, 2014 18:50

If you are interested in trying to save Almost Human (like fans managed to bring back The Sentinel, the character of Iolaus on Hercules, the Legendary Journeys and a shorter final season), The Fringe and others), various initiatives are underway.

Twitter Campaign scheduled for 12 May, between 8-9 PM ET/PT to get #SaveAlmostHuman trending (tweet to anyone and everyone ie JHWyman, bad robot, WarnerBrosTV, CW, Showtime, Syfy, OWN, Oprah, Michael Ealy, Darren E Scott (MX actor who retweets to about a thousand people), Foxtv (to protest and request reconsideration), AlmostHumanFOX, blogs that might raise awareness (campaign was mentioned on Huffington Post yesterday), etc.

Petitions (to be sent to various networks/distributors like amazon, netflicks, syfy, showtime) to Sign at:

Points to include in any letter/email you might wish to send to FOX execs or other networks (ie is a model letter but would need reframing for other networks):

Please reconsider granting Almost Human another season, not just for the cast and crew or the viewers, but for the benefit of your network as well:

Viewership and Profitability Considerations

The FOX network was apparently disappointed in the weekly average of six million viewers but Almost Human scored at least as well as other of their renewed shows despite:

a) several episodes aired out of order, which impacted upon character development and story continuity,

b) competition from two powerhouses in the same timeslot: the last season of the immensely popular How I Met Your Mother and The Voice,

c) TWO three week hiatus periods during the course of the short 13 episode run which also, worked against viewer retention, and

d) airing against the Olympics (virtually all other networks aired reruns).

Despite all of this, Almost Human held its share and, by the season finale, viewership was increasing. In addition, Almost Human already has an international following which can also only continue to grow.

Medium to Long Range Profitability

The network chose to continue shows that are well recognized to be in their final seasons, like Bones and The Following. Almost Human could give the network a solid and growing audience for at least five years to come. In terms of investment, supporting Almost Human would make better economic sense.

In a poll of shows 'on the bubble' (including shows that FOX has since renewed), Almost Human received a 'renew' vote 88% of the time, the highest rating of all the shows listed in that viewer survey. Viewers are invested in this show; they aren’t going to go away.

Assured Quality Over the Medium to Long Term

· JJ Abrams and JH Wyman have well earned reputations for delivering excellence

· Wyman has a five year plan for this show to ensure viewer constancy and loyalty

· Almost Human was ranked 4th best of all the new shows last year

· Several members of the cast and crew have already been nominated for various awards for the excellence of the work on this show, from acting to production values and special effects

· Michael Ealy is one of the most popular actors in the medium and Karl Urban is a star of international renown. The other principal cast members are experienced and popular in their own right, particularly Lili Taylor and Minka Kelly.

Network Image and Social Leadership

· Almost Human features social diversity in positive and powerful ways, from a lead detective with a leg prosthesis, two leading characters who are persons of colour, and two strong leading female characters, one of whom is cast in the role of the Captain, the person holding the authority over the others

· In various individual episodes, other disabilities (mental illness, heart failure) were also dealt with in sensitive, positive ways.

· Articulate, well written and provocative story lines address a wealth of current issues from over-reliance on technology to societal impact of disproportionate wealth to health care and several other topics that are relevant to our society. Almost Human not only entertains (with a balance of humor and drama) but stimulates thought and debate on subjects that matter, that have ethical import. In this respect, it is reminiscent of the original Star Trek, which spawned spinoffs and movies for the past nearly forty years.

Almost Human is unlike anything else on television right now and virtually corners the science fiction market. Currently, this intelligent, dynamic show has a known viewership of six million which is already growing based upon ‘word of mouth’ excellence. The likelihood is that, as the series becomes more widely known, especially if it is accorded a better time slot and as it airs internationally (begins airing in the UK this month), viewership will only continue to grow significantly into the years ahead.

In conclusion, I'd beg you to renew from the perspective of millions of fans who sorely want to keep watching this show, but I doubt our individual views matter in the boardroom. So I appeal to your desire for long range success, predictable earnings, and solid performance that will bring industry respect through future awards of excellence.

For all of these reasons, I hope you will reconsider the decision to cancel Almost Human.

In related news, Karl Urban has said at a Con that the season one dvd/blue ray sets will be available on June 17.

Please spread the word and reblog wherever you may have an audience. Encourage everyone you know to sign the petitions and to engage in twitter campaigns.
