Too Good for this World: Ms. Hudson of Elementary

Oct 24, 2015 22:22

Why she deserves her own show! Ms. Hudson, from Elementary, is played by Candis Cayne, who was featured last year in a Time magazine piece on "transgender people who influenced American culture." As Sherlock says: “Ms. Hudson is a fascinating woman. She has an Oxford don's knowledge of ancient Greek, but she's a complete autodidact. Well actually its a very fitting field of study for Ms. Hudson, considering she makes her living as something of a muse.” Per Joan: “I like Ms. Hudson. You know, she's lost. She's just trying to figure herself out.”

So, I believe Ms. Hudson deserves her own show, to celebrate her strength and her talents, and encourage her to keep being herself!

Show Title and Description

A Real Woman
Martha (nee Martin) Hudson is at a crossroads. Not her first-no, her life has been peppered with moments of decision. But this one is a doozy: keep living her life as a kept woman, in rather stultifying Manhattan luxury? Or break free and realize her dream of living on the sea, surrounded by azure waters?

Finally, a series of events catapult her into leaving New York and taking up a position as manager of a Greek resort hotel. Here, she will encounter travelers, dreamers, locals, and schemers, as she crafts her own identity as someone who has lived in many different worlds. Join us as we sashay with Ms. Hudson in a journey that brings together the feisty spirit of The Mary Tyler Moore Show with the hedonism and human interest of Mamma Mia. Join us as we come to know the lives and loves of … A Real Woman.

Theme Song: adapted from I'm a Woman (Bette Midler)
Hey I got me a new lease on life
And I can start anew
I'll give it everything I got
I'll bring it through and through
'Cause I'm a woman...W-O-M-A-N.
   I'll say it again.
   I'm a woman...W-O-M-A-N.

Well, I got me a degree in Ancient Greek
That says there's nothing that I can't do.
Well, I can whip a hotel into shape
And I can make a man out Of you.
  'Cause I'm a woman...W-O-M-A-N.
   I'll say it again.
   I'm a woman...W-O-M-A-N.

Pilot Episode: A Real Woman Finds Her Way

Martha Watson
is living in a luxurious Manhattan penthouse maintained by her sometime lover, billionaire financier Jack Raymond Storm (Donald Sutherland). He calls her his "muse," crediting her with supporting him to make fabulously lucrative deals that increase his wealth tenfold. But she begins to feel trapped, and unappreciated, especially as troubles on his homefront keep him distant from her. One night, she confronts him, and he slaps her, prompting her to leave immediately. She finds refuge with her friend, Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller), who fortuitously connects her with his much-berated brother Mycroft (Rhys Ifans). Magically, Mycroft has a proposition for her: to run a hotel on an island in Greece.

Episode 3: A Real Woman Greets a Friend

Martha is happily managing the Kontos Hotel, learning more about the locals, calming worker disputes, and volunteering at the Museum of Antiquities when she is contacted by an old acquaintance from her Transitioning Support Group days: Brenda Bewlins (special guest star Caitlin Jenner). Martha is thrilled to have her friend visit the island and stay at the hotel. Warm reminiscences, juicy gossip, and late nights sipping ouzo soon give way to jealousies and conflicts. Fortunately, the intervention of the kindly mayor, the hotel bartender/town counselor, and a host of others conspire to bring the two friends back together.
