A list of things that I did this summer that I felt were unique and worth mentioning (for me at least):
- Worked at the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics.
- Became a real mountain man thanks to an overwhelming amount of field research.
- Wasn't late for work ever...In fact, sometimes I was early.
- Nearly stepped on a rattlesnake.
- Stepped in bear scat, among other things.
- Risked Lyme Disease and possible paralysis (not really, as long as you're very careful to remove the ticks from your body).
- Purchased rain boots.
- Ate different berries growing wild in the forest.
- Wrote a 27 page master's level sociology paper in less than six weeks (title: Abortion Attitudes Amongst Religious Affiliations as a Function of Gender and the Women's Movement, 1977-2008).
- Became a pokemon master of SPSS syntax (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
- Saw Fireworks on the National Mall in DC on independence day.
- Had the most memorable birthday ever (except for the parts I don't remember, which involve the Baltimore Police and some other stuff that's been compared to the passion of the Christ).
- Went to Oriole Park at Camden Yards (third baseball stadium I've had the pleasure of visiting).
- Saw Fireworks at Oriole Park, on my birthday no less.
- Tried for the first time: lambic, irish car bomb, absinthe, hard cider.
- Traveled to Baltimore (3x), Washington DC (2x), St. Louis (1x), San Francisco/Palo Alto/San Jose (1x), Pittsburgh (1x), and Chicago (1x). Yes, I drove to Chicago for a weekend.
- Went to a vodka bar where the bar is actually made of ice and they have over 200 different types of vodka. Three Olives tomato vodka is great.
- Visited the Anheuser Busch brewery and went through their beer school as well as their hourly tour. At the end of the tour they give you beer samples. Very fun.
- Donated platelets and plasma far too many times to count.
- Taught a friend how to blow smoke rings.
