I've just finished watching "Tyrant" on FX in which there were two graphic rape scenes. I'm not a fragile flower and have never been the victim of sexual assault. I watch a lot of graphic, sexual stuff. Plus, I know we are meant to feel the horror of what this character is doing, and how he cannot control his world and therefore is a brute to women who can do and say nothing (Tyrant takes place in a faux Middle Eastern country). But I'm disturbed and saddened. It reminded me of FX's "Americans" which is supposedly great, but I couldn't deal with it after a rape scene unsettled me.
Between the news of late, and my own growing distaste and anger about women's issues (but isn't it great it's IN the news?)... I get a little depressed. Don't you?
If you wanted to,
you could read this entry on Dreamwidth too, friend me there, or you know, bake a cake. Whatever you like. (
