Serene's thoughts: It Had To Be You

From this day forward, You shall not walk alone. My heart will be your shelter, And my arms will be your home.

Love was in the air at the wedding of Cyril and Shanna. It left me, and I am sure everyone, with a warm fuzzy feeling… we couldn't help but feel touched by the warmth and love exuding around the ballroom, seeing actions of love that spoke louder than words, and we couldn't help feeling that the couple were in the company of family, relatives and friends who simply adored them and were there to celebrate the union of two very beautiful people.

The first sign of "fuzziness", was the surprise item which Cyril's sister presented to her brother and his bride, singing the duet Everything I Do, I Do It For You with the emcee for the evening, which left the audience cheering on the young lady for an encore.

The couple's speech was a memorable one. Cyril took lead, extending his heart-felt thanks to their parents, friends and relatives, some of whom had traveled especially from the Netherlands, Indonesia and other countries just to be with them on their special day.

Shanna's speech left even more smiles around the room. The bride started by saying that did not script her speech as she wanted to deliver her feelings from her heart, and that was exactly what she did.

After a short sincere speech in English, she attempted one in Mandarin, albeit confessing that she was extremely nervous as her command of the language wasn't strong, and it didn't help that she knew there were many Mandarin Teachers amongst her guests, which drew applause from the floor and hearty laughter across the ballroom.

Slowly but surely, she conveyed her thanks in Mandarin, and at times, when she couldn't find the words to express herself, the confident bride spontaneously asked the floor for answers to which her guests responded enthusiastically.

The audience then teased the couple for a "kiss" moment and the elegant bride took it in stride, candidly taking a moment to ask everyone to have their cameras ready before delivering the kiss of the night!

The evening ended with Cyril's relative requesting to do a special item for the couple. She took over the keys, and accompanied our very own Jonathan (Pianist) to the romantic jazz classic It Had To Be You.

The band had an enjoyable time bringing music for the evening. We noticed some amongst the audience merrily bobbing along, at times, singing and tapping to the rhythms of ever familiar numbers such as Fly Me To The Moon, Close To You, Moon River etc. When the formalities were done with and the audience started to mingle, we saw groups of friends and relatives chatting, making merry and dancing along as we continued with the entertainment.

Our heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Cyril and Shanna! And a big thank you to the many lovely guests who came up to the band to share with us how much you have enjoyed our music. Last but not least, special thanks to Cyril, for making special arrangements to ensure that the band's welfare was well taken care off despite having a hectic evening in itself, before the wedding ceremony commenced.

Thank you for letting us be a part of this wonderful wedding, and to witness this celebration of love, that has touched us, and I am sure all your guests, in more ways than one.

Compliments from the Groom:

Hi Hsin Yeow,

Sorry to get back to you so late, I was a bit tied up after the wedding arranging all kind of stuff, etc. But anyways, as promised here's our feedback.

Even though we were wondering whether or not to have a live band playing at our wedding, we are certainly happy that we have asked you guys to play.

Even though we ourselves didn't have that much time to enjoy the sets, we had so many positive reactions from friends & relatives. Especially going through the effort to memorize the Spanish lyrics of Quizas Quizas Quizas was a nice touch! we really have nothing negative to say whatsoever, you guys have been great!

Cheers,
Cyril

We were so touched when Cyril sent us the above photos, more than a year after the wedding. This was his latest e-mail to us, dated 11 Jan 09:
