Bevlyn's thoughts: 天蚕变 (Metamorphosis)
Christina is a very busy woman who despite her lack of time, had just enough time to think of ideas to surprise her husband at their wedding celebration. For a start, our band was a surprise gift for Henry.
On the pretext of finding songs to be played on CD for the wedding, she asked Henry to choose the songs he would love to hear. Everything was kept hush hush, and it was my first time to have to time the band's entrance into the venue.
According to the 'sisters', it was an arduous task because Henry was a very 'hands-on' groom and insisted on staying in the ballroom to attend to things. Eventually we managed to find a suitable time to setup while the arriving guests distracted the clueless groom.
The couple marched in to live music, led in by Boon Chye's wonderful saxophone solo intro of
At The Beginning. It was a wonderful march-in song because of the apt lyrics:
We were strangers starting out on a journey
Never dreaming what we’d have to go through
Now here we are and I’m suddenly standing
At the beginning with you
The second surprise of the evening was the song of the 1st dish fanfare
《天蚕变》* (Listen to it
here), which according to Christina, is Henry's favourite Cantonese song from an old Hong Kong drama serial. I could still remember the cheeky look Christina had on her face when the song was being played loud and clear.
Way to go!
*Metamorphosis (very loose translation of the title)
Band: Bevlyn, Ein Ein, Boon Chye
Repertoire:
At The Beginning, Dream A Little Dream, Close To You, Everlasting Love, Fly Me To The Moon, He Loves And She Loves, The Look Of Love, True Colors, What A Difference A Day Made, For Once In My Life, Wishin' And Hopin', Let There Be Love
Songs To Recommend:
I was pleasantly surprised by Christina's choice of
He Loves And She Loves and True Colours. The former is a sweet little jazz piece which I hadn't heard before, but thoroughly enjoyed singing after I had learnt it.
I simply adore the
lyrics which are cleverly woven into the highs and lows of the melody!
It is also a wonder that I was singing the classic
True Colours, for the very first time in a wedding!
Wedding Tips:
(1) Engage a band as a surprise gift for your spouse
(2) Surprise your spouse by choosing a special tune or song for the first dish fanfare! In Christina's case, she chose the theme song from an old drama series that Henry loved to watch when he was a child
Compliments from the
bride:
Hey!! It's me!! The bride =D
Thanks for everything!! You guys are fantastic!! I overheard your singing while getting myself ready in the changing room. Lovely!!
So sorry that we couldn't thank you in person =( Everything was so last minute. I was so scare that the song list was sent to you too late and affect your rehearsal.
Despite your first time performing "He Loves and She Loves", it was really really lovely!! =)
I'll send you a copy if my brother capture any of your performance in the video, and photos too!!
And the "天蚕变" surprise, hehe... came from his friends aka the emcees and sisters. I knew it only that very day, and they asked if it's a good idea.
I'm *innocent*, I only helped them get ready the cd. hahahaha =P Well, at least all our guest remember our wedding, right!! =D
