Bevlyn's thoughts: The Lovers' Concerto
Two days before the banquet, Wei Mun sms me to say she would like to sing a song for Darrel and asked if we could accommodate her request. I was thrilled at her courage and agreed to the band staying back a little just for this surprise item.
On the day itself during the last-min rehearsal with Wei Mun, the cat was nearly out of the bag when Darrel did a surprise visit back to the restaurant to use the toilet. *Phew*
We enjoyed the performance tremendously because the invited guests were very appreciative of the music. After the 2nd march-in, Darrel and Wei Mun each gave a very heartfelt speech. Darrel started off by saying he would like to share their love story with the guests, because he really appreciated their presence.
Apparently 5-6 years ago when he signed up for an orientation camp in NUS, Wei Mun was his group leader. She had called to inform him of the stuff he had to bring along. Out of the blue, Darrel asked this golden question which made a lasting impression, "Do I need to bring my own toilet paper?"
Boy, I didn't know that could potentially turn out to be a pick-up line too!
When it was Wei Mun's turn, she turned emotional right at the start because Darrel had mentioned their love story. But the number of tissue papers she needed became much more significant as she expressed gratitude to her loved ones, especially her mother.
Perhaps it was not the perfect moment given Wei Mun's blocked nose and tearing eyes, but when the time arrived for her to sing the surprise song for Darrel, she was nevertheless all ready (well, after blowing out her nose a little more). The guests were all surprised by her gesture and cheered her on (I suspect a few might be Darrel's envious friends!).
It was especially heartwarming when Wei Mun reached out to hold Darrel's hand while singing:
Now I belong to you
From this day until forever
Just love me tenderly
And I'll give to you every part of me
Oh don't ever make me cry
Through long lonely nights without us
Be always true to me
Keep this day in your heart eternally
You'll hold me in your arms (Darrel closed in and wrapped Wei Mun with his arms)
And say once again you love me (I swear he said "I love you" to Wei Mun!)
And that your love is true
Everything will be just as wonderful
...From Lover's Concerto
It certainly will be their concerto to remember for a long long time...
