The last four or five days have been fairly hardcore around here. The girls have not been sleeping much - stupid hot sticky British summer weather- which means Jake and I have not been sleeping much. The weather broke a bit around 1.30am - don't even bother asking how I know so precisely- and it started to rain which meant that we actually got some sleep. Hurrah for that.
Poor little Orlaith, her room is so stuffy (we don't open the big windows at night) and she woke up around 11pm last night, frightened and looking like a drowned rat. Her hair was so wet with sweat it was plastered flat onto her head and she was pretty much stuck to her sheets. So Jake hauled her downstairs, we got her lots of water and squash to drink and then she spent the rest of the night in our room. She cried until about 12.30am, then she just gave up and went to sleep in the middle of our bed. Poor little chick. She didn't wake up again until this morning, which was good, she really needed the rest. Esme kept going through out the night, at some point I must have brought her back into bed for a feed and just crashed out cause I woke up with one of them sleeping on each side of me this morning!
We'll set up the fan so it's in Orlaith's room tonight, hopefully that might help a bit.
My Mum is upstairs with Orlaith right now, giving her a bath. She's heading off tonight, so it will be just me and the kids from now on, (obviously Jake is here in the evenings etc and weekends but, you know what I mean.) Should be interesting. We've had such a great time together, really peaceful and calm. It's nice to have reached this point in our relationship where there is really not much conflict left, it's all smoothed out and I can take advice etc without it ruffling my feathers. Hopefully that means I've grown up a bit more now!
Snatches of things from the last few days:
I was feeding Esme on the weekend and called out for Orlaith (who was hiding on the stairs). I was pretending I didn't know where she was and calling "Oh, Orlaith, where's Orlaith?" There was a pause and this tiny grumpy voice from the hall muttered " Not. Here."
Puttting her to bed the other night, she was having trouble getting off to sleep and kept asking me "Where's my little Esme Coconutty? You are a Mummy Coconut and I am an Orlaith Coconut, where's that Esme Coconut?"
She calls Esme her little Boobie muncher and her little coconutty fellow, she loves to stroke her hair and tickle her tummy and she's always talking to Esme and asking her things. She takes great pleasure in asking what noises Esme can make and she always asks me if Esme wants some of her dinner or if she's having an ice cream or a biscuit she offers some for Esme.
Toilet training is not going so well. She's just not getting the hang of when she needs to wee. She can do the other stuff just fine, and she's quite happy to use the potty, but she just keeps peeing her pants. Fair enough really, I mean it's only the first week. But I think it's going to have to be back to nappies with potty breaks in between because otherwise the house is going to smell like a public toilet or something. She's gone through three pairs of undies already this morning and on Sunday she peed on the sofa too. So yeah, that's going to take a little longer to get going. She'll get there eventually.
Esme is just continuuing to feed, sleep, cry, wee a LOT and occasionally soil herself. She loves to have baths. The other night I was giving her a bath to try and get her off to sleep. She was loving it but the water felt a bit cool so I lifted her out to dry her and she started to SCREAM. I quickly put her back into the water and she calmed down again quite quickly and then GRUNTED at me as if to say "Damn straight, bitch, don't go getting ideas, this is my bath and I'm staying in."
So yeah, tired, covered in vomit and generally worn out though I am, I am having great fun. Oh and the garden seems to be finished now too, so photos of that and small people anon. Give me time. I'll get there.
