Groucho is not letting me get a great deal of sleep at the moment. At 5 1/2 months pregnant I can't get comfy in bed no matter how I wriggle. I don't have enough pillows to let me sleep on my back (Can cause crimping of the cord, thus preventing Groucho getting nutrients and stuff), I can't sleep properly on my side because my hips and my shoulders get ground into the mattress by my giant body, and everytime I am starting to get sleepy now Groucho boots me in some part of my anatomy. Granted, Groucho's limbs are still tiny, so it's /gentle/ booting, but it's enough to wake me up.

Plus I amd /hungry/! I woke up at 3am and ended up giving in to Groucho's silent pleas for sustenance at about 3.40am. Then I sat and worked on my feather and fan socks for a while (hurrary for middle of the night knitting) which calmed me down a little. I went back to bed but couldn't sleep and I think I finally dozed off around half five, only to wake up a little while later when Jake got up for a pee.

Also, is it wrong that I spent the entire night dreaming about yarn? Seriously, I was ravelling skeins in my sleep and dreaming about dyeing. I've never dyed anything other than a couple of t-shirts, so how come in my sleep I was tipping packets of food colouring into crock pots and fighting with my little sister about whether or not I'd ruined a dye lot. Somewhere in an alternate universe there is a happy me, up to the arms in rainbow coloured yarn. Sigh.

I do actually want to try dyeing. I've been reading up a little about some different methods and plotting about using bits and pieces of otherwise unloved and abandoned yarn to try out some techniques. I'm really interested in finding out about using household food items, like avocado and onion skins but I need to find out more about the mordants they would require. A lot of what I've been seeing about plant based or 'natural' dyeing scares me a little, mainly because of some of the insanely toxic chemicals involved. I know there are ways of using plants without having to use scary poisonous substances as well, I just need to arm myself with some more knowledge before I take a crack at it.

Orlaith is fast asleep in her pram downstairs. I took her to her Tippeetoes group this morning and she wore herself out running around with one of the little boys there. She loves that group so much. It's a really well put together session, actually. Kind of like a first year drama practical - lots of stretching up high and down low and moving in interesting ways to music. We did some singing as well today and ended off with the parachute game which is always a huge hit.

Anyway, I should go make myself a cup of tea and maybe finish off my socks. I have only a few more rows to do on the toe and then it's off to Block City. I even made myself some wire coathanger sock blockers to try out with these ones. I figured that since they were my first attempt at anything more fancy than ribbed socks, they deserved a little more respect.

TEA!
