I have two main desktops. 1) A powerful Linux desktop with tonnes of memory and two monitors. 2) A less powerful, quite a bit older machine which runs Windows XP and basically lets me play Civilisation IV. My main desktop PC is squeeling like a very loud thing. Switching it off overnight hasn't helped. I'm expecting it to die sometime soon which is a shame. I really ought to find out if the loud noise is the power supply fan or the cpu fan ( Read more... )

Anyone got any recommendations for a rarely used home office laser printer? I have an aging HP Laserjet 2100 but it is becoming less and less reliable. It just stops and then plays silly buggers. I have been reluctant to bin it as I have a spare toner cartridge for it ( Read more... )

So I dont think I will be buying another compute server for a while. I now have 14 cores easily available to me - plus another five or six in lower spec single core machines...
