Can I just laugh out loud please?

I'm extremely sorryy. I don't want to appear unnationalistic (if there's such a word :O) and totally negative. But this idea of Pop Girls and XLR8 is pushing to my limits. :X Not that I hate everything about them but OMG. Captain obvious, why hello. They're totally copycats of Korean groups. Pop Girls = SNSD + WG + After School + 2NE1 while XLR8 would be the cheap clone of Super Junior (even the beat, omygoodness.). I'm kinda relieved that no one has attempted a BB style (which I hope will be non-existent in the months and years to come..) but that doesn't take the annoying factor off. I don't really know if being an acclaimed East Asian Pop Music avid listener has done me good / better as a Filipino but WAHHHHHHHHH. /bangs head on the wall.

This is not right.. mostly. :/  (in my opinion and biases.)

I know imitation is the sincerest/best form of flattery. But seriously, is it really? As far as I'm concerned, most of the time, it brings annoyance to some (or most, i say?) of the people. T_T And in our case, it brings a stereotype, I guess, that what we can only do is copy what's the trend.

Seriously. I think I'm having a mindfuck because of this. TT___TT This is the very reason why I don't want Korean Pop to be popular here in the Philippines. YES, selfish. But look, what does it to the people? Even WG's nobody is used in fucken political ads. What does that mean, right!? It just screams epic fail. I don't need to bold that, right? It's too obvious.

On the other hand, I think it is indeed about time to think about our own music industry. But, this should be done in the field in which we have our niche. Ya know what I mean?

I think we, Filipinos, have established a good music industry back in the 80s(not much familiar with this decade but let's just include that period)-90s. I was very young then but I appreciated it. Even until now. I admit I wasn't (and probably will not be) an avid Francis M., Parokya ni Edgar (tho I extremely loved them coz Chito is incredibly funny!), Rivermaya or Eraserheads fan, their music is good. During those times they were active in the industry, I think I can say that it was the breakthrough of OPM. And yes, that also includes some other veteran artists like Regine V., Jaya (mwahaha my parents even bought one of her cds. back when 450 pesos was like a thousand! xD) etc..

So what I mean is, with the bloom of these kind of groups, I think it'll just bring the standard of Filipino music down. YES. DOWN. I know its not possible for a group to not have any critics but let's cut the crap here. For one who's listening to East Asian Music half of her conscious life, I can easily tell from the beat (refer to XLR8, duh. Sorry Sorry. I don't care if it was only 8 beats. I can tell! I played Sorry Sorry for over 300 times since it was released. I probably even know who's singing the specific parts) and the fashion (refer to Pop Girls. I don't need to explain further :| ) that they are copied.

Sure, Kpop was not original in the first place. It originated mostly from western influences. But look at them now, still getting issues on originality but they have this unique flavor. And yes, that argument has a gap. Since Kpop evolved, Ppop will, too. My take on that? Let me eat my words IN THE FUTURE. In the meantime, I'd love to see them try it. I don't care if this shall be seen as a harsh comment but really, it should be seen as a challenge to the industry. Like what the Former Senator Shahani's (which is our Dean btw and former professor on Foreign Policy) observation, Filipinos like to take the easy way out. It's true, right? As a people, because we have suffered a repressive era, I think it made us impatient to social change and immunized us to the ills of our systems. Maybe that's why our society is still 'the same'. The point? Nothing great is easy. It's just like a thesis. You will never finish it successfully until you've encountered major revisions, dead-end research, compromise, heartbreak and most of all PAIN. If they really deserve it, they'll win all, if not, most of the people's opinions in favor of them. And yes, in time.

But okay, I admit they do have good points and I'm not gonna end this blog without saying them. For the Pop Girls (ugh. i didn't realize it is such a tacky and unoriginal name but let's move on.. -__-), their vocals are okay. I can't probably say specifics about it but they are good for beginners. Anndd.... maybe I just really have an attachment to this song but I really like their cover of Kapag Tumibok ang Puso (originally sung by Donna Cruz). I sang this song before when I was like 4 years old. HAHAHAHA /gets bricked. I won Ms. Nursery! YAY. \m/

HOWEVER, they need to start singing LIVE and I still don't like the fact that they sampled 2NE1's I don't care in the Kapag Tumibok ang Puso cover. TT__TT;; I know its a sample. BUT STILL. KSDJFDGLHADSHKGASGAHHH;;; TT__TT It just proves the point that they are patterned to Korean groups. For once, pinoyyy. Maging original naman tayo? Please?

For XLR8: LOOKS = DAEBAK! (AWESOME)
HAHAHAHAHA. xD They're actually pretty handsome. :)))))))))

BUT, they also need to start singing live. Only then we can judge their true singing abilities. Not saying this because I can sing like Mariah Carey but from the perspective of who they are trying to entertain. More so, they need to sing (more) clearly. When my sister heard the song, she was like "What's that? Chinese/Mandarin? Korean?" I had to shout at her that the song was in Tagalog. LOL.

Alright. I've said my piece. I just need to practice my writing skills (though I know this is not the right place. haha) because I won't have to do any papers anymore until I start grad school / double degree. I also have to express my thoughts on what's happening. It might just kill more of my braincells (I waste them too much hahahha) if I contained my thoughts to myself. lol. After all, this is my blog. >:]

It's okay to hate. I'm sure I'll find a way to rebut the claims against the "filipino kpop listeners" who are tagged as "korean wannabes". Ohay people. It's called embracing the diversity of cultures. Hay, is the WWE vs F4 debate coming back to life? -__- I really hope not.
