Title: “Perspective”
Author: TheQueenly1
Rating: G
Disclaimer: I do not own “Band of Brothers.” I have great admiration for the real men who inspired the miniseries; no offense is intended, and I very much hope none is taken. This is a work of fiction. I am not making any money from this, so please do not sue.
Character: Harry Welsh
Summary: Harry’s view of the war on D-Day.
*Kitty,* he thinks as the plane explodes minutes after he makes his D-Day jump, the blast propelling him up and away, enabling his chute to deploy, thus saving his life. He survives, but only at the price of the lives of the other men on board the plane. When he thinks about that, his mind begins to close down, so he finds another perspective.
*It’s all a game,* he decides. Some win, others lose, as much by luck as by skill, just like in any other game. Only as long as he thinks about it that way, and remembers that Kitty waits for him, can he do what he must do.
