He holds her for over an hour as she falls asleep on him and it’s heavenly but the heat was starting to become unbearable. Maya straightens with a groggy groan and Gabriel lets go reluctantly. “I’m so hot. Aren’t you?” He doesn’t answer as she unbuttons her cardigan and draws it off to reveal a red vest and gleaming skin. “Gabriel?” She drops her garment to the floor as she looks at him with a frown. “Take that off, you’ll burn up.”

“Right, right…” His fingers feel slick and clumsy on the buttons as he watches her resting back against the wall. Once off he sits further away, the sweater nested in his lap. Over his erection. His glasses slip down his nose as his whole body feels engulfed with heated embarrassment. He had it while she was in his arms but she had been asleep, the effect she had on him unseen.

She smiles at him with a pout. “Why you sitting all the way over there? Don’t like me no more?” He gapes like a fish and she laughs, a loud rich sound that takes him by surprise and brings a smile to his lips.

“No, it’s not that. The heat…body temperature…” He trails off as she nods, smiling.

“I’m just joking Gabriel.” She tilts her face at him, pondering and he blushes. Not that she could tell. “I love your name. If I have a son I would call him that. Gabriel.”

He releases a shaky, pent up breath and almost sighs aloud. He loves, loves the way she says his name. So exotic and unique on her tongue, all things not him. “Thank you. It doesn’t really suit me.” He closes his eyes, trying to think of anything but the hardening in him and her proximity. This was bad, very bad. It’s not like he had never got this reaction near her before but then he could escape and she was non the wiser. He presses the back of his head against the wall and tries to relax, not to think.

“Gabrieeeeel?” Her voice breathes into his ear and he jumps, eyes springing open as she sits right next to him again with a glint in her eye. She waits for him to answer but he remains silent, looking at her like she’s unreal. She nudges his leg with her own. “Even cornered in here you won’t talk to me?” She smiles but there’s an edge to her voice.

He blinks and swallows. “I uh, I do want to. I just don’t have anything to say. I think I would just bore you.” He offers a weak smile and she clicks her tongue.

“No you wouldn’t! I’ve tried to talk to you before but you just drift away.” She makes a hovering motion with her hand, the sweat beading along her bronze skin.

“I’m sorry if you thought I was being rude. I didn’t mean to come across like that. I just didn’t know -”

“What to say.” She finishes the sentence with a grin. “Well you’re speaking now, that’s a start.” Her hand circles his arm and she turns her body towards him, knees touching his leg. “I hope this means that you will talk to me more Gabriel.”

“I will, I promise.” His insides bubble with pleasure as she smiles at him. Then his breath catches as she pulls his glasses off, tilting her head back to look at him.

“How old are you?”

“Twenty-eight. Why?”

“You dress much older. Like Dr Suresh.” He clears his throat at her analysis but she wasn’t being mocking. Just honest. She sees he looks humiliated and slips his glasses on herself, striking a pose. “What do you think?”

He smiles and then laughs, reaching up to push them gently up her nose and she blinks. “If you start to feel dizzy you better take them off.” He lets his hand brush a strand of her long hair for a moment, savouring it. What he really wanted to do was fist the cascade and bring her to him. She tucks the hair behind her ear and then her hand touches his face again, the back of her fingers brushing over his cheek.

“So smooth. So pale to.” His breath puffs out against her shoulder as she bends over him, her hand squeezing his waist for a moment. Then she pokes him in the chest. “To skinny Gabriel! You should eat more.”

“I forget to sometimes…” his voice is low and far away, her touching him makes his mind feel cloud thick. Her hand lays flat against his shirt and she doesn’t move away, licks her lips. He lifts his hand and settles it on her back, over the ripples of her hair and starts to gently stroke.

“That’s not good…” Her chest rises and falls more rapidly, her breast pressing against his arm as she pushes herself on him and he takes his glasses off her as she starts to move her face closer to his. This wasn’t happening, this couldn’t be happening to him.

“Maya? What are you -”

“Emergency services. How may I help you?” The woman’s voice comes shockingly loud from the speaker and both Gabriel and Maya look at it in stupefied silence before Maya jumps to her feet and presses the button frantically.

“We’re stuck in the elevator, the Shepard Building. Can you send someone?”

“I’m going to put you on hold.”

“WHAT?!” Both of them shout it but Maya is louder, outraged. She presses the button again but gets no reply.

“What the fuck?! That bitch put me on hold!”

Gabriel is on his feet looking at her shocked angry face and suddenly laughs at the ridiculousness of it all, his mind and emotions feeling loose. “I know. Do you think she did - did it on purpose?”

“Hey don’t laugh! I can’t believe it, that’s so unprofessional! And if she did do it on purpose I will go hunt her down!” Maya says it fiercely with a smile but a part of him thinks she’s absolutely serious.

“Hello? Can you tell me what the problem is?” Maya spins around as the woman’s bodiless voice issues out again and she shouts into the intercom.

“WE’RE STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR! Are you deaf? God do your job and don’t put me on hold again!”

There’s clearly a sound of someone sniffing on the other end and then a tongue sucking over teeth. “Gosh I’m sorry! What a tragedy!” Then the line clicks and static buzzes around them. Gabriel’s mouth goes slack as he stares at the silver grill where her sarcastic voice had been.

Maya can’t even speak she’s so angry. The shock passes and Gabriel starts to laugh again and those black eyes look at him hard before she suddenly starts to laugh along with him. He feels light headed and can’t stop as she moves to him and places her hand over his mouth. He breathes with difficulty through his nose as she gives him a warning look, her eyes watering.

“Shhh Gabriel! Oh dios, I‘m so, so...” Her eyes widen and she gasps. “Do you think they’re watching us?” And then she’s off again, her body leaning against his and he takes her hand and lowers it from his mouth.

“I’m sorry, god I think the air is thinning. You think they‘ve stuck - stuck us in here on purpose, watching?” He breathes deeply and the giggles gradually stop. It takes him a few seconds to realise that he has his arms around her, hands on the skin of her bare back and his erection suddenly makes itself very noticeable. But he doesn’t move as she twines her arms around his neck, smiling.

“Oh I haven’t laughed like that in forever, thank you Gabriel.” She hugs him and his heartbeat goes crazy in his chest and he feels hypersensitive, his mind suddenly cramming with every fantasy he’s had of her. Her eyes grow soft and hot with a look he couldn’t believe he was seeing. His head starts to dip down to her with the pressure of her hand and those eyes hood, her mouth parts as his hands glide over her sweat covered back. It’s when she presses her stomach against his cock that he gets a sickening feeling and he wants out, scared of what might happen. He lets go of her quickly and starts to bang on the doors, back to her.

“Come on!” His voice strains as he feels her hand at his back, slowly moving up.

“Gabriel?” Her voice is husky to his ears and his eyes roll up. “Are you ok?”

“I’m fine Maya, I guess it’s finally getting to me.”

She presses herself against his back, knowing that it was making him uncomfortable but unable to stop herself. He thought she didn’t see him, wasn’t interested but he never knew the truth. He never saw her intentions because he would never look at her long enough.

“Good.” She feels his muscles stiffen under her hands before he spins around, looking down at her with wonder. “Gabriel…mi angel.” There is a breath of space between them and she leans forward as he does. He moans out her name as his arms come around her hard and fast as the carriage suddenly gives a lurch and the doors open.

A technician looks at the man and woman in a passionate clinch and sighs as they jump apart, breathing heavy from their red mouths. Lucky he got there in time, another minute and who knows what he would have found.

The pair walk out sheepishly until the sound of her honking laughter is heard in the distance, mixed with the mans low shy chuckle.
