It's official. Sold the old 1998 Ford Ranger. Now I won't have to mow around it.

The guy mowing the ditches for the parish stopped this morning and asked about my old truck. Don't have a "For Sale" sign on it, but he had noticed it sitting in the yard unmoved for some time. Anyone know of any good (reasonably priced) local (Monroe/West Monroe,LA) "engine shops"? The Firestone shop couldn't determine the cause of the truck's engine revving up while idle, so they think it might be something "internal" in the engine, and they don't remove or break down engines ( Read more... )

Geesh. Why can't my luck change??? While going to my doctor appointment this morning, the ol' truck started acting up. It got hard to start, and when it did, it kept wanting to rev up, even when braking at stop lights. Got home, noticed when first cranked, a large plume of black smoke came from the tailpipe ( Read more... )

Just happened to cross my mind to go outside to crank the truck and let it run for a while. Since these health issues started, I don't drive every day, so I go out every so often and run the truck to keep the battery up, for the rare days I DO go somewhere in it.

Because I don't get out much since the health issues, I go out every few days and let my truck run for a half hour or so. The times I've forgotten to do that, had to use moms car to jump off the battery. I DO occasionally make short trips in the truck, they are just few and far between.

Took my truck to "Carwash West" this afternoon for an oil change...AND a thorough washing. First time I've had it washed in literally YEARS. Had to tap the plastic over the speedometer to make sure it was still there. Was a lot of dust before the wash...

Truck headlight/blinker problem is now fixed. Needed a new headlight/dimmer switch. Getting that item replaced, plus an oil change and new air filter, came to a whopping $360.00. Oh, well, at least I don't have to worry about getting off work late at night and not having lights!

Taking the truck in Friday morning to see what the deal is with the right turn blinker and the headlights. Turn on the blinker, headlights go off. Have to wiggle the stick to get headlights back on. Well, truck wouldn't start again this morning, even after charging yesterday. So, got another "jump" from moms car, and went back to Advance Auto Parts. Just went ahead and bought a brand new battery, so hopefully won't have any more issues for a while!
