More excerpts from my journal....

Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001:  "The bombing has begun in Afghanistan.  Here we go."

Friday, Oct. 19, 2001:  "My parents have been here for a visit over the past week...  They flew in last Sunday and we went up to Loch Lomond for lunch.  Unfortunately, it was a pretty rainy day.  The weather has been rainy on and off all week actually.  On Monday, we drove down to the Solway coast to see John Paul Jones' cottage (but it was closed for the season) and over to Lockerbie to see the garden of remembrance for the Pan Am disaster... Tuesday, we drove up to Stirling.  Jenny went to visit her friend David at the University of Stirling while we drove around the Trossachs (rainy again).  We went to see the Rob Roy Experience as well as the William Wallace Monument and museum...  We stayed overnight at the Stirling Highland Hotel Tuesday and Wednesday night... a pretty posh hotel converted from the old Stirling high school just down the street from Stirling Castle...  We ended up not visiting the castle, althogh I've never been... maybe next time.  On Wednesday, we took the train from Stirling into Edinburgh... and took a look at the Psychology Dept. at the University of Edinburgh (for Jenny).  The weather was pretty nice that day.  On Thursday, we drove down to Glasgow and took a look at the Mackintosh House at the University of Glasgow..."

Monday, Oct. 29, 2001:  ..."My parents are back in the States now.  We had a nice visit...  Towards the end of their stay, we went down to Tullie House museum in Carlisle, which I had been wanting to go to...  They're off to Arizona with their RV now..."
