Simon Zealotes / Poor Jerusalem

Wow! Here's a new song for my Song Hall of Fame.... "Simon Zealotes / Poor Jerusalem" by the original cast of Jesus Christ Superstar

I say wow because these new songs lately have been few and far between. This is something like the 9th song from this original cast JCS album. Yeah, it's the 9th.... so not my favourite from it but good enough to make it onto my list.

Here is a video containing music from the album... made to be in sync with the film (where the music is not as good... but the images are enjoyable).

I used to sometimes play the beginning brass part on my trumpet when I was a kid... and played the other parts of the song on the organ noodling around on the keyboard.... JCS has been a significant influence on my youth, musically, and beyond... as has been mentioned every time another song from the album gets inducted to my SHoF list.

This song is good, also, because I like the whole "add a touch of hate at Rome" vibe... trying to get Jesus to grab some political power. Here are some lyrics I like:

There must be over fifty thousand
Screaming love and more for You
Everyone of fifty thousand
Would do whatever You ask him to

Keep them yelling their devotion
But add a touch of hate at Rome
You will rise to a greater power
We will win ourselves a home

The Poor Jerusalem song that goes along with it is also a nice little ballad.... "To conquer death you only have to die"...
