Arr mateys! It be
'Talk Like A Pirate' Day again, an' I hope yer all enjoyin' a cup o' th' grog. It be five o' th' clock somewhere on the sweet seas.
I have more tv & movie comments, but I don't think I can do it in pirate speak, so let's pretend I posted this part yesterday, mkay? Massive spoilers ahead, so be warned!
Watched The Dark Knight, finally. It was way long, but it was really an excellent movie. I had my doubts - with good reason, as the Batman movie franchise has been really hit and miss - but this was one of the good ones. It was a really long way to tell Two-Face's origin story, but it was woven in with the Joker's introduction in such a skilled way that it all balanced out. The one complaint I have about that part is that the part dealing with Harvey's conversion probably should've had a little more depth.
So, I guess the Joker has hundreds of people working for him, even with the high numnber of employee fatalities and turnover rate, to plant all these bombs and set up all his elaborate schemes. Heh.
It was kinda cool to see Bruce Wayne doing the Batman voice while out of costume, with the blindfolded hostages. That sort of thing tickles my fannish buttons a lot. If only I was a bigger Batman fan, I would've been squeeing madly at that.
Commissioner Gordon! \o/ He's awesome. Gary Oldman is also awesome. I was all "Noooooooo!!" even though I knew he couldn't really be dead. He earned that slap from his wife, like whoa. At that point in the movie, I leaned over to hubby and said, "Don't protect me like that, if the issue ever comes up. Just FYI." :p
Alfred contines to be the best part of the Batman universe. :)
Watched The Incredible Hulk. Yawn. Not a Hulk fan, either, but in the comics I tolerate him more than I do Iron Man. It's a shame that this movie didn't come close to the awesome that is Iron Man, or even close to how good The Dark Knight is.
Liv Tyler is lovely, but she felt very generic in this role. I think she may have left in a little too much of her own presence, I don't feel she embraced this character and breathed life into it. That or she didn't play it anything like I would've expected. I would rather have seen a less or even unknown actress in the role.
Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. Hmm. I didn't buy his performance. I guess it's like Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider? Bigname fanboy gets to play his favourite character. He didn't do a bad job, really, but again I didn't really feel the character in him.
So, I had the same problem with both leads? Is it just because they're big names? Well no - look at Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan in the X-Men movies. They own those roles, no matter how many other iconic roles they've played, and when I watch them on the screen in the X movies, I don't see Captain Picard and Gandalf the Gay... uh, Grey... I see Professer X and Magneto.
I wanted Mr. Blue to be Reed Richards. :( That would've been so much cooler, but I guess they needed a mad scientist badguy. At the very least, Bruce should contact Reed about getting some of that unstable molecule material for an outfit he can wear under his normal clothes. They're supposed to be colleagues of a sort, eventually.
There were a few things I liked. Stan Lee is pure awesome win, and I cheered and laughed so hard when he was the one who got the spiked bottle. It reminded me so much of the Simpsons episode he was in where he was standing outside Comic Book Guy's shop trying to Hulk out, claiming it "really happened once!". I did snicker at the giant purple pants, and the cameo by Lou Ferrigno - plus he did the voice of the Hulk in the movie! Now that's sticking with the classics, and I heartily approved of that tieback to the old series.
This movie rated a solid "meh". Nice set up for the Avengers movie in a few years, though.
The House season premiere was good. Loaded with yummy angst. Even though we know Wilson can't really leave for good, it's still hard to watch this friendship break down. But what doesn't kill them will make them stronger, and when they come back together they'll be better than ever. :)
Thirteen has Huntingtons. Yeah, we know. And she's bi! Yeah, we know that too. Carry on... Kutner is fun, I'm liking him more and more all the time. I like Taub's dry wit as well, and I think that if he gets his feet under him, he'll be able to go the distance with House.
Cameron! \o/ Chase! \o/ Foreman! \o/ Original ducklings FTW. It was nice to see them, and I'm looking forward to having the storylines balanced among them this season. I also want more focus on the weird medicine - please, show, don't go the way of so many other good dramas and make it all about the lurve!
The Supernatural season premiere was awesome. Great into sequence (we're seeing McG's music video experience here, right?), and oh man I did not expect them to have the stones to bring Dean back that way and make it angels vs demons. There's some seriously bad mojo going on, and I think there's a good chance that s4 will be as awesome as s2.
The hugging! Oh god all that hugging! *flails* And the amulet!! *flails more* And the awesome that is Bobby! *dies* Oh yeah, that was a good episode!
An' that be all from me, yer fannish cap'n. Time t' rustle up some grog an' wenches, an' play pin th' tail on th' cabin boy. (What, don't pretend ye never played that 'un, ye scurvy dogs!)
