Some people like nothing better than to ruin things for everyone else.
So what better to do than get some popcorn and settle back to watch the shit explode?
As
saralina25 says: "Oh fandom, my fandom, thank you for not letting me down. <3 I had so many other things to do this weekend that I put on hold as soon as I heard about this. Potterdammerung only comes around once every few months."
These are my favourites. Many thanks to

Pure gold:
I really don't know what's wrong with JKR. I hope she was joking about that. To make Dumbledore gay is just gross. Makes you wonder if he was checking Harry out during their lessons. It's disgusting! Why can't there be a popular book that isn't trying to promote political correctness? Unfortunately I think she was influenced by someone and that's why she made this character gay. Harry Potter is just a story, people, it's not propaganda. What next? A transsexual?
~ Hermi_1
As I've already said elsewhere, quite frankly, I see this as just a pathetic attempt to get back into the slashers' good graces after the drilling into our heads that everyone (else) is straight.
~ OrochiPeach
Clearly.
Bk 7 outs DD as the totally Evil Puppetmeister, let all lesser Dark Lords bow before him. All putative "gays" in the Potterverse are Evil. So much for Equality.
~ Rhemus
Why YES! Dumbledore was revealed as evil in DH! And the world is black and white!
It seems that she just wants to please everyone. I really hope that she has always pictured Dumbledore as gay but somehow I don't believe that, I think that she felt coerced to make one of the characters gay.
~ Hermi_1 again
I think we all need to go back and re-read the description of Dumbledore's outfit in Chapter One of PS.
On livejournal!
my natural reaction to old guys taking a large interest in eleven year old kids of the gender they're attracted to is that it's awkward...if dumbledore were straight and harry were a girl it would be just as awkward to me. it's not a homophobic thing it's my apprehension of old men and young kids. [...] all i know is that the relationship they had would be completely illegal in any school i ever went to. it's not just the interest in him it's the extreme personal interest and attachment...it's just hard for me....
~
aliveinletters,
here at
2_lines I can't see why Rowling has done this. [...] I read the book and looked upon the likes of Dumbledore and McGonagall as I did teachers when I was at school - you knew they had private lives, but you didn't speculate because you weren't all that interested and it wasn't any of your business (unless you heard some really juicy gossip) and it didn't matter if your teachers were married, single, straight, bi, gay or into having sex with blast-ended-screwts because you simply didn't think about it.
~
louenn,
here, at
2_linesWow. I think me and
louenn had very different school experiences.
[...] don't get me started on the genetic link Rowling has inadvertently implied by making her only gay character the brother of another sexual deivant.
~
innerbrat,
hereYes. Please do not start on this.
Hell, who wants an eight year old reading a book that contains such material? J.K. Rowling had never been one of my favorite authors--though her earlier HP books I liked a lot--and now this is just more reason to why she seems like a mediocre writer.
~
statikv,
here at
antiyaoiSurely, the eight-year-olds are going to see those pointy, buckled boots and cover their eyes shrieking, "WHY, God, WHY?"
At TLC!
Earlier some one commented that no one deserves to be mistreated or harassed because of their sexual orientation - this is absolutely true and THAT could have been in the series. But making the greatest wizard that ever lived gay doesn’t say that - it says “Hey kids, you should be gay too!"
~ quoted
here And, remember, never ever forget
Harmony Forever!
It's hardly relevant to the story whether Dumbledore is gay or not. It didn't change his alchemy status as a character without an opposite character to balance and therefore a character unable to complete the process/accomplish the goal.
~ avidbeader
Sorry, this one was just for me to laugh at Harmonians.
Oh my God, this woman is so sad how she craves the attention!!!
~ Pamina
No, of course it wasn't the answer to a question from the audience. How stupid of me.
And, just in case you are all now so depressed that you want to kill yourselves, here are some words of wisdom from
FAP:
It might have been better if it had been in the books, yes, but it's hard to see where -- the whole point of the Dumbledore arc is that his past is almost entirely kept hidden until the last book. ~ SnorkackCatcher
Well said.
His role is NOT the token gay person. ~ Lunafan
Nicely put, Lunafan. Dumbledore's gayness is great, but it doesn't matter. So everyone, stfu and stop embarassing yourselves.
Actually, "stfu"? What am I talking about? *cracks knuckles and waits for
vanceone , that mad woman from Georgia, et al*
Has anyone else got any gems?
