BOOM!!!

When my family first moved here from Evanston, IL, we lived in a little two-story house in the center of Groton. It was originally a very tiny little colonial or pre-colonial structure. The front half was all ancient, although basically just two rooms downstairs and two rooms upstairs. The back half had been added I want to say sometime in the 70s based on the choice of wood half-panelling and exposed beams. How the front was heated I don't remember, but the back had a pot-belly wood stove downstairs and electric baseboards upstairs. I remember the first thing we did when we moved in was install carbon monoxide detectors, especially near the old now-unused chimney, which housed pipes for hot water and gas. Just about everything that could be was mounted from the ceiling in the dirt-floor basement, because it flooded often. We were, after all, at the bottom of a hill. At one point while my mom was down there doing laundry, a frog hopped on her foot (the washer and drier were on a platform about a foot off the ground).

I can no longer include the house on a tour of places I've lived here in MA, because it has exploded.

I'm glad we moved. But then, as I didn't like it there to begin with, I was glad we moved anyhow. Luckily, no one was hurt, although there is a cat missing. Poor kitty :(
