I have often walked . . .

Dec 05, 2007 23:28

down this street before,
but the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before.
All at once am I on my ass and I
see the ice on the street where I live.

Are the sidewalks slick in the heart of town?
Do I slide like this in any other part of town?
And the snow doth fly straight into my eye
as I walk down the street where I live.
(to the tune of "On the Street Where You Live" from My Fair Lady)

This is what my brain did while my body tried to stay upright on the way to the T yesterday morning. In the third day of snow. Granted, a light dusting sort of snow, but snow nonetheless. The walk isn't specifically bad either; the neighbors shovel their walks. But the sun creates just enough melt to generate patches of black ice.
