It's not that Jongdae doesn't support his hyungs going at it like bunnies. Jongdae is just a tiny bit annoyed. And maybe left out.

Prompt from seoulfulness found here.

Always

"Have you seen Lu Han?" Minseok asks in Korean as he peeks into Jongdae's room, where the mentioned male is splayed across his bed Mandarin book and notebook open in front of him. Jongdae doesn't reply and Minseok rolls his eyes as he asks again in Mandarin, because when Jongdae is in Mandarin mode, the only way anyone would be able to deal with him is to do it in Mandarin.

"No, I haven't," Jongdae fluently and proudly responds in Mandarin. He lifts his head up and smiles at his hyung.

"Oh," Minseok pouts, reverting back to Korean. "Are you sure because I--"

"I haven't," Jongdae quips in Korean because it just seems so much easier to get upset in a language you're very familiar with and returns his attention back to his Mandarin book.

Minseok lets out a breath and leaves Jongdae with his studying in peace. Jongdae feels slightly bad for being short with Minseok, especially since he was bordering on being rude, but he decides he doesn't really care at the moment. But maybe he'll apologize later when he gets the chance.

A while later, it’s Lu Han who wanders into his room this time. He sits on the edge of the bed, making sure to close Jongdae's Mandarin book and notebook to get his attention. Jongdae frowns and raises a questioning eyebrow at him.

"I heard that Minseok was looking for me earlier," Lu Han states, his own eyebrow raised.

"So?" Jongdae asks, pretending to be confused.

"I told you to call me when he does and tell him that I was just out for a bit," Lu Han reminds him, a flash on annoyance crossing his face. "You know how it's important to him to know where I am always."

"Then why didn't you tell him that you were going out or something?" Jongdae snaps. He really isn't sure why this is becoming his problem.

Lu Han merely looks at him, a slight tilt to his head before he sighs and stands up to leave the room. Jongdae makes a face and returns back to his studying.

Tao then peeks in. He stands by the doorway for a full minute before gathering the courage to say anything. "Ge, I was just wondering if--"

"I'm busy," Jongdae snaps, still annoyed at Lu Han, and Tao immediately leaves.

Jongdae realizes what he's done. The last thing he wants is to be snappy with Tao, who has done nothing wrong. Tao isn’t lovesick like their other bandmates and, therefore, is someone who should be in Jongdae’s good graces. Jongdae mentally smacks himself because he’s a jerk. He flops face down on his Mandarin book.

Jongdae's in the middle of eating the food that Kyungsoo has made for him after some serious aegyo work, smiling and swinging his legs back and forth. He seriously misses Korean food when they're all the way in China, where Kris has made it a rule to do as the Romans do. Or, in that case, do as the Chinese do, which was eat Chinese food. So whenever they're back in Korea, Jongdae charms his way into Kyungsoo's warm and caring heart until he makes him heaps of food. While Kyungsoo never really says no to any of the members, Jongdae decides that his aegyo is just that magical.

So he's eating and having fun, relaxing because that is the only thing on his schedule that day. Eat, eat, and sleep and then more eating and sleeping.

And then Wu Fan comes into the kitchen and ruins it all.

"Have you seen Yixing?" Wu Fan slides onto the seat across from him, arms resting on the tabletop. He's wearing his white and crisp collared, long-sleeved shirt that Jongdae wants to flick a piece of kimchi at just because he finds it annoying.

Jongdae turns a sharp gaze on him. "No, I didn't," he answers and continues on with his life, eating.

"But Chanyeol just told me that you and Yixing were talking before he left and--," Wu Fan began.

"That doesn't mean he told me where he went," Jongdae interrupts stoutly.

Wu Fan sighs and stands up. "Just let me know if you see him, okay? I bought him something and I want to surprise him."

"Aww how sweet," Jongdae dryly says, not even looking up as Wu Fan leaves the kitchen.

Tao then gingerly enters the kitchen, leaning against the counter after he's gotten his glass of water. He just stands there, staring at Jongdae, who looks up at him when he couldn't stand the staring anymore.

"Can I help you with something?" Jongdae asks, a bit amused.

Tao has been walking on eggshells around him lately and he wonders why. He then remembers that he still hasn’t apologized that that incident where he told him off and thinks that he should probably do that now.

But before he can open his mouth to do so, Tao's eyes has already widened. Tao then shakes his head and practically flies out of the kitchen. Jongdae shrugs and goes back to eating. He can always apologize some other time. For now, he will eat.

-

"Ge, what are we going to do about this!" Tao hisses at Jongdae as Wu Fan and Yixing sit too close to each other, looking at something on Yixing's phone, while Lu Han's shamelessly sprawled on Minseok's lap, sucking face with him.

Jongdae merely scoffs, pressing his back closer to the mirror behind them instead, which makes Tao raise an eyebrow.

"I'm serious, ge," Tao tries again, jabbing his elbow to Jongdae's side when he doesn't even respond.

Jongdae refuses to look up because he knows what he sees will burn his eyes for days. "I'm used to it," is what he says, staring at the lyrics on-hand that he's been trying to memorize for the past hour.

It's not that Jongdae doesn't support his hyungs going at it like bunnies. It's just that ever since Minseok and Lu Han and Wu Fan and Yixing finally decided to officially be together, things started changing around the dorm and it's like there's a divide: the couples and Jongdae and Tao. It never used to be like this. Lu Han would always ask Jongdae to go shopping with him. Wu Fan and Tao would go out to play basketball together. Yixing would help him and Minseok with his Mandarin. Their dynamics had gotten so much better since they debuted and now it's all screwed up because of this whole coupling thing. So yeah, Jongdae is just a tiny bit annoyed.

And maybe left out.

Tao doesn't give up at prodding him like Jongdae's hoping he would. He keeps on nudging and nudging and nudging, until Jongdae nudges back way too hard and Tao's left sprawling on the hardwood floor of their practice room. The four love birds don't even notice.

"Ge."

And Jongdae knows Tao is pouting even if he can't actually see him doing so. Jongdae sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose because he can never really say no to or ignore Tao.

"There's nothing we can do about this," Jongdae patiently tells him. "That's..." He gestures and makes the mistake of looking over at their bandmates and sees Lu Han lying down on the floor with Minseok on top of him. Meanwhile, even Wu Fan and Yixing are making out quietly, as if trying to be discreet about it. Jongdae shudders and forces himself to look away. Tao's eyes are trained on him. Jongdae clears his throat. "Well, that's... that's that so yeah. Let's just... move on with our lives."

Tao fidgets beside him for a full minute before Jongdae sighs again and turns to him. He knows that whatever Tao’s deal is, it’s not his fault anymore, because he’s already apologized to him too many times. Still, Tao has been weird, but Jongdae just chooses to ignore it because maybe that’s really just how Tao is and he just never noticed.

"What is it, Tao?" Jongdae patiently asks when he couldn’t take the fidgeting anymore.

"I just..." Tao hesitates for a second before their eyes meet.

Jongdae swallows heavily because Tao's gaze on him is heavy and dark and it suddenly makes Jongdae thinks of things he wouldn't normally think about. Well, things he wouldn’t admit he normally thinks about.

"I have a suggestion on how we can...move on from this." Tao gives a vague gesture towards their occupied bandmates.

"What?" Jongdae croaks, lips dry because Tao's leaning closer as he licks his lower lip. He can see the way Tao’s eyelashes flutter each time he blinks and can see the tiny freckles splayed on the top of his nose. He swallows again because he’s pretty sure the lack of distance between their faces is not normal.

"Just..." And then Tao is pressing his lips against Jongdae's.

Jongdae's eyes flutter shut just as his brain shuts down. The first thing he thinks of is omg I’m sexually harassing our magnae. And then he realizes that, technically, Tao is the one harassing him because he kissed Jongdae and not the other way around.

Suddenly, Tao is moving away and Jongdae panics because he doesn’t want Tao to get the wrong idea. So he pulls him back, snaking a hand behind his neck and kisses him again, moving his lips in an attempt to reciprocate Tao's ministrations. The slide of their lips against each other is jarring, but in the best way possible. Because, well, this is Tao, and while Jongdae may find him attractive, he's never ever thought that something like this could happen between them, although he had hoped.

When Tao pulls away, breathing a bit heavier than before, there's a questioning look in his eyes. Is this okay?

Jongdae nods and leans forward to kiss him this time because yes, this is very much okay.

He ignores the fact that he’s become just like his bandmates. He’s now become a lovebird. Or something.

-

Chanyeol coughs as he overhears Jongdae recounting his story to Baekhyun. He gives a weak smile as Baekhyun glares at him for eavesdropping, but that doesn't stop him from butting in.

"So you and Tao are together, too?" Chanyeol asks, eyes wide.

Jongdae half shrugs but smiles widely. "I guess we are."

"And all this because you felt left out," Chanyeol clarifies, back straightening as Tao enters the kitchen.

"No," Tao interrupts as Jongdae opens his mouth to answer. He leans forward and kisses Jongdae on the mouth, making Chanyeol avert his eyes, while Baekhyun giggles. "I've always liked Jongdae ge."

Jongdae smirks at this and pulls Tao down for another kiss because he always liked Tao, too, but was just too chicken to do anything about it.

They kiss and kiss and kiss until Baekhyun and Chanyeol decide it was time for them to leave.

Jongdae makes a mental note to thank the rest of EXO-M later.
