“Hyung, I don’t know why I have to be the one to talk to her about it,” Hyukjae whined as he and Heechul walked down the hall towards the quad. He shoved all the books he was carrying in his backpack.
“She’ll listen to you,” Heechul responded. He patted Hyukjae’s back, chuckling quietly.
“But she’s your cousin,” Hyukjae countered. “You have far greater influence on her than me.” He frowned when Heechul shook his head at him.
“Just do it, Hyukjae,” Heechul responded good-humoredly but with a tone of finality, putting an arm around his shoulders. “I’m sorry to have to ask you, but you have to do it.”
When they reached the quad, they scanned the crowd, looking for their friends. They found the boys on their usual tables. As they walked towards them, Heechul saw Jooyeon, hair surprisingly in a bun, walking towards their tables too.
“Hey! Joo-,” Heechul began to call, but Eunhye suddenly approached her with a guy. He was handsome, tall, and blonde-haired.
“Who’s that?” Hyukjae asked curiously, watching as Eunhye started talking.
All of a sudden, the guy pulled Jooyeon into a tight, familiar hug. And then he kissed Jooyeon’s exposed neck.
The two boys stood there in stunned silence.
“Did he just…?” Hyukjae trailed away in shock, his mouth hanging open.

Jooyeon walked towards their usual quad tables, where she could see Taeyeon chatting with Tiffany, while their boyfriends were obviously talking about basketball as Siwon was demonstrating some moves. Smiling inwardly, she suddenly decided to join the guys in playing that afternoon. It had been a while since she played with them and she missed it.
“Jooyeon,” a familiar, but unwelcome voice called her.
But she stopped walking and turned around, taking a deep breath and forcing a smile on her face. The smile froze as soon as she saw whom Eunhye was with.
“I thought you’d be happy to see me,” Eunhye knowingly said, smirking. She glanced at the guy beside her. “Do you remember Jungsoo?” Her smirk grew wider.
“Jooyeon-ah,” Jungsoo greeted her, the smile on his face caught in between a genuine smile and a smirk.
“Oppa,” Jooyeon said in nearly a whisper. She glanced around, feeling self-conscious. It was like being the emperor, who suddenly came to the realization that he didn’t have any clothes on. She felt exposed.
“Is something wrong?” Eunhye inquired innocently, maintaining the smirk on her face.
“Aren’t you happy to see me?” Jungsoo added. He took a step towards her and put his arms around her waist, embracing her forcefully. “I missed you,” he whispered through her hair. Then, without asking for permission, he placed a feather-like kiss on her bare neck.
“Oppa,” Jooyeon said, rigidly pushing him away. Her heart was beating faster than normal. She couldn’t think straight. “Let’s talk somewhere else.”
“Aren’t you going to introduce him to your friends?” Eunhye interrupted. “I’m sure they’d love to meet him.” She grinned annoyingly. “They’ve already seen him anyway,” she happily told her, nodding towards the others. She grinned at her then walked away.
When Jooyeon turned around, everyone was looking at them. Taeyeon was standing up, looking worried.
“Ah Taeyeon,” Jungsoo said, deciding to walk over to the group without invitation.
Jungsoo arrogantly walked towards the group with Jooyeon lagging behind him. Several of the boys stood up. They didn’t like how he was acting, especially since they noticed that Jooyeon didn’t look very happy in seeing him.
“Taeyeon-ah, it’s been a while,” Jungsoo greeted, smiling, his dimples showing.
“You know each other?” Siwon asked his girlfriend, surprised.
Jungsoo gave Taeyeon a knowing look, which made Taeyeon speak up. “Yeah,” she confirmed. “We go way back from Jeonju.” She tucked some strands of her hair behind her ears, something that didn’t go unnoticed.
“So you’re old friends, too?” Hyukjae clarified, pointing at Jooyeon and Jungsoo.
“Yeah,” Jooyeon reluctantly established. She looked away, her eyes landing on Donghae, whose expression was unreadable. Averting her gaze from him, she locked eyes with Kyuhyun, who raised his eyebrows at her as if asking something.
“It’s nice to meet you,” Heechul said, stepping forward and offering to shake his hand. “I’m Heechul.” Not the friendliest of the bunch, this definitely surprised everyone.
“Nice to meet you,” Jungsoo gladly responded, shaking his hand. “I’m Park Jungsoo. Jooyeon, Taeyeon and I go way back.” Jooyeon shifted uncomfortably in her place. She shuddered and hugged herself, rubbing her hands on her arms. Hyukjae and Heechul exchanged a look.
“I wonder why they’ve never mentioned you,” Siwon spoke up, giving Taeyeon an inquiring look.
“Is that so?” Jungsoo replied, glancing at both girls, his gaze steadying on Jooyeon. He chuckled and put an arm around Jooyeon.
Jooyeon forced a chuckle out, trying to subtly escape from his touch. “I just never got the chance. I’m always so busy with school and everything,” she fibbed, glancing at Taeyeon. “So, um, we’re just going to catch up. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
“That would be perfect,” Jungsoo said, putting an arm around Jooyeon’s waist this time. He grinned at everyone and walked away with Jooyeon in his arm.
“I’ll go with you,” Taeyeon called after them. She immediately grabbed her bag.
“But I thought we were going out?” Siwon asked, sounding upset.
“I’ll make it up to you, I promise,” Taeyeon said, standing on tiptoe and giving him a kiss on the lips. “Bye guys,” she said to the others then hurried after Jooyeon and Jungsoo.
“Who the hell does that guy think he is?” Kangin growled. Tiffany calmly put a hand on his arm. “He’s a jerk!” he said at once. “Why are they friends with him?”
“It doesn’t look like they’re happy about that fact, though,” Kyuhyun commented. There was definitely something off about how the girls acted around him. It didn’t seem like they were happy to see him.
“He kind of looks familiar,” Hankyung said, speaking up for the first time.

“Are you okay?” Taeyeon asked Jooyeon. They had decided to go to a nearby coffee shop to accommodate Jungsoo’s request to talk. He was currently at the counter, placing their orders.
“Fine,” Jooyeon answered, taking a deep breath. “We can do this. We’ll be fine.” But she really wasn’t fine. There were a lot of things related to Jungsoo that she had tried to forget when she finally was able to leave Jeonju. And now that he was back in her life, all those memories have returned to haunt her.
“Yes, we will,” Taeyeon assured her as Jungsoo made his way back.
Jungsoo smiled charmingly, his dimples showing. They could already sense women turning their heads to look his way. He sat down across the two girls.
“So… how have you guys been?” Jungsoo asked pleasantly. He flicked his hair to the side, catching the eye of more women in the shop.
“What are you doing here, Jungsoo?” Taeyeon asked straightforwardly. Jooyeon shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
“Whoa,” he said, raising his hands up as if in surrender. “Is that the kind of greeting you give to an old friend?”
“You’re no friend,” Taeyeon shot back angrily. “Friends don’t blackmail each other.”
“Hey, I’m not blackmailing you,” he corrected. “I merely said that-.”
“Oh please, cut the crap,” Taeyeon interjected. “What are you doing here? What do you want?” she repeated, looking at him pointedly. She knew him like the back of her hand. That was the advantage of having grown up together. He couldn’t lie to her, couldn’t hide anything from her.
The smile and warmth disappeared from Jungsoo’s face, replaced by a cold and calculating look. He placed both his hands on the table and clasped them together, leaning forward. “You want to know what I want?” he asked in a low voice. His gaze moved to Jooyeon. “Her. She’s what I want.”
“You have some nerve-,” Taeyeon yelled, slamming her hand on the table, causing other people in the café to look their way. But Jooyeon reached for her hand and squeezed it gently.
“It’s okay, Taeng,” Jooyeon calmly interrupted. She turned to Jungsoo, who was now smiling satisfactorily. She turned to him, not looking him straight in the eye. She could never look at him straight anymore. She didn’t want to.
He shrugged simply. “My terms are simple. You hang out with me whenever I want, I keep my mouth shut.”
“About everything?” Jooyeon clarified, watching him carefully.
“Everything,” Jungsoo affirmed. “Although I don’t get why you’d want you being with me a secret. I’m hot, you know.”
“I was never with you,” Jooyeon responded through gritted teeth. She reached for Taeyeon’s hand under the table and clenched it tightly.
“What does hang out mean exactly?” Taeyeon demanded, squeezing her hand back comfortingly.
“I’ll leave it up to your imagination,” he snickered, glancing to his left, where some girl was eyeing him. He gave her a smirk.
“You better keep your paws to yourself,” Taeyeon heatedly reminded him. If she could, she would never allow Jooyeon to be alone with him.
He snickered. “Relax. I already apologized for everything in the past.”
“It’s not enough,” Taeyeon retorted, glancing at Jooyeon, who looked away. “It’s never going to be enough. You left! And you let Jooyeon take all the heat for what you did. You destroyed her life!”
Jungsoo’s eyes moved to Jooyeon. Without realizing it, his expression and demeanor softened as it always did when it came to her. He didn’t know what it was but he couldn’t help but soften at the sight of her, which was why he left so suddenly two years ago. He couldn’t face her after what he’d done.
“Well, I didn’t intend for that to happen. Ladies,” he announced, bringing himself out of his thoughts. “It’s been a pleasure.” He stood up and leaned over Jooyeon, giving her a kiss on the forehead. “See you tomorrow.”
