I have been devouring Cesar Milan's Member of the Family this evening. Since I've been wanting to get a dog for so long, I figured it was a good idea to look into a book on the topics of getting a dog. This book covers the beginnings and more. I've done lots of research on my own, on the internet. Milan has some really interesting ideas I want to try next time I go look at dogs at Petsmart (where the local rescue orgs show their dogs). I've also thought of trying a local shelter. I have been hesitant to go that route because frankly, rescue orgs take care of lot of the initial costs and hardships of owning a rescue dog. They make sure the dog is spayed/neutered, has shots, and sometimes even house breaks the dog fully. There are a ton of fantastic rescue orgs in my area too.
Jeff and I had a lovely adventure in Ojai today. We took the long way there- long windy roads through the hills and forests. :) I think Ojai is beautiful. Jeff isn't as enthralled with it as I am. He is uninterested in all the art galleries lol. We ended the day at a Barnes and Noble, where I bought the Milan book, along with a novel by Warren Ellis. I rarely buy books. So expensive! However, the Ellis novel was $5, and the Milan book seemed like a good book to actually own.
While at B&N, I just had to plop down in the graphic novel section and read something. I picked volume 9 of Fables, which I've already read but wanted a refresher on. I haven't read volumes 10, 11, or 12. I also looked at the beginnings of The Black Dossier, which is kindof Volume 3 of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, written by Alan Moore and drawn by Kevin O'Neil. I can't read Moore's work idly in a bookstore though. Even his League material is dense for me. So, maybe I will buy it someday, and finish it then. Doubt the library has it- no because it's "too racy" like the Kentucky debacle but because it's so new.
Tomorrow is hopefully a trip to the Long Beach Aquarium. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
