A christmas sonnet:
As great a purpose lies in Christmas, beats
As steady and hurried, falling in rains,
As lies in the human heart’s bloodless streets
When winter around us our body pains.
And the empty hollow of the soul moans
With cold, is taken by drudgery, dies
A thousand deaths as chill sets between bones
Without time for joy, in these winter skies.
