Halloween countdown film challenge 2 and 3

Oct 04, 2011 15:20

Sunday night, because it was Sunday night, and Sundays are made for for black and white films, I watched the very stylish and elegant The Innocents as suggested by the lovely Pink Emma.

A blast from the past this time, in contrast to the very up to date film of the previous night. The Innocents is a masterpiece. A very chilling suspense film, made so through excellent lighting, clever cinematography and acting rather than the use of CGI. You're never sure who the Innocents are, and you never really get to find out either. I think that's what this make this film works. Is the house haunted by the ghosts of two lovers? Are the children possessed by evil spirits? Or has she driven herself and everybody else to hysteria by obsessing over the death of the previous governess? Who knows?! Excellent film.

Monday night - another classic haunted house film The Amityville Horror (the original 1979 version) as suggested by some random on a film community journal.

I haven't seen this film since it first came out when I saw it at the pictures, and do you know what?! It's not that good. Really, it's not. I wont bore you with the story because everyone in the world has seen it but suffice to say, I just found the kids annoying, James Brolin as wooden as hell, and the fact that it's remake gets a better rating on imdb just about sums it up. Bloody ridiculous film.
