her mind fades to the time she had first fallen for a youngman. he had a smile that sparked her inside, he had everything she could ever want. he had been the leader where ever he went, and he had never not had her with him. they had met in a library. he had come to her, asked hre if she wanted to join a protest, she did not even know what the flyer had said, she had joined.
that night as they stood outside one of the faculty offices, chantting, for all chanting was worth he had stayed at her side. when the campus police had invaded with shouts, and threats, he had taken her hand in his. running fast she had felt her blood pump like fire beneath her skin. they laughed when they reaqched the field. beneath the bleachers he pulled her to safety. together they watched as the poor rent-a-cops were badgered by the fast pace protestors. she had watched his eyes meet hers, she knew that she was flushed from running, and though she wanted to hide her smile with her hand, she could not. he had leaned in softly and kissed her for the first time that night, it would not be the only.
years of love had been spent together, so many nights of mystery, and so many moments of absolute bliss. graduation had been the peak of thier relationship. he was to go to one coast, she, to another. the two had sat together forever at the airport, holding tight to one another, but there was no other way. he had promised to write, he had promised to call, but these things never happened. she had watched him step through the main gate, the same sweet smile; she had never dreamed that it would be the last time she would see his face.
now sitting at the coffee shop, so many years passed, she feels the same old tinge of remorse. she had never known what had happened to him, but now, with him standing in the coffee house doorway, she had part of her answer. he made eye contact immediatly, and began walking towards her. quickly grabbing her bag, she ran past him, spilling her drink, but not even caring. out on the crowded street she felt panick rise. he was behind her, and all she knew to do was to run.
she had written to him, e-mails, all of it in vain. her endless round of messages on his machine had only stopped when the machine would no longer accept her voice. she had buried him in her mind. curious as to his where abouts, but trying to survive on her own as she swam against the current of his memory.
turning the corner to her apartment building she tripped over an imagenary foe. her hands went flying, her bag flew in the air. just as she wwas about to hit the wet cement, a strong hand gripped her from behind.
as he pulled her to her feet, she felt the furry of a thousand lost seconds sweep across her soul. tears spilled down her cheeks and she becoame enraged with him. her tiny fist smacked lightly on his wool jacket, his caring eyes pitied her, or were those tears? hugging her small frame to his, he whispered a thousand apologies. he had missed her, ten years, and she was all he had ever thought about. ten years he had fought to get back to her. his research in the jungle proving to be more unpleasant then he could have ever imagined. a kidnapping, a release, all becuase the people were in constant war...his words flew like soft clouds from his mouth.
standing beneath him, she looked up into his eyes. tears clouded them both, and she knew every word was truth.
she felt the warm tears slide gently down as he pulled her to him. the first kiss replicated down to the butterflies in her stomach.
