Adam was driving me back from Vancouver last night after losing in the GNT semifinals.

We had just passed by one of the Indian reservation casinos, I think Tulalip.  I was slipping in and out of consciousness when a speed limit sign passed by.  I could swear it said:

Adam and I came in 6th in the 0-5000 Blue Ribbon Pairs, having scored sessions of 57%, 54.5%, 55%, and 58.5%. We didn't play perfectly, but were both on our games, and our opponents were kind enough to offer a consistent stream of opportunities. Some coworkers and I organized a Microsoft bridge night the other friday - what my partner Dell insisted on calling "the prestige event of the year." It was for the annual Giving Campaign. There were 10 tables, at least 50 bucks donated per table, plus the MS dollar-for-dollar match, totaling to over $1000 raised for the United Way of King County ( Read more... )

Dave Brower, Craig Barkhouse, Alan Epley, and I won the open swiss at Olympia this weekend, out of 54 teams.  Consequently I got my silver life master!

In the penultimate round, our only loss, we Dave and I were playing against the Blusteins, who I always enjoy playing against.  Especially Mary Ruth, she's sharp and honest and fun.  After the match ( Read more... )

A monkey is off my back: I finally qualified for the second day of an IMPs event, and it wasn't even the "flight A-minus" three-day fall Open Swiss!(1)

For some reason this month they had a 2-session "unit swiss" instead of the normal unit game.  I guess they get more money this way.  Henry, Rose, Dave Baer and I won the event.  There were some pretty facts about the scores.  Unbelievably, in the last four matches we didn't give up a single IMP!  We won one of the 7-board matches by a score of 70- ( Read more... )
