SixTONES interview, answer questions about their recent performances and also future hopes

SixTONES Part 1
“Ju-gaku Journal” is for learning how each group of Johnny's Jr. works on their jobs. For this time and the next time, we have SixTONES, who have recently finished the butai “Tou × Zai Show Gassen” with Kansai Johnny's Jr., and "Jr. Matsuri" at Yokohama arena and Saitama super arena. We are going to focus on these 6, who strengthen their colors every time they gain experience.
Question: Which Juniors do you like their performances?
Tanaka Juri:
I thought Jinguji Yuta’s enlivenment at Jr. Matsuri was nice. Even when everyone is uttering the same words in the same rhythm, not so many people can have a voice that can liven up the audience (Like Jingu)
Morimoto Shintaro:
The first person who catches my attention when I watch videos is Nagase Ren. I think he is conscious of his own strengths and weaknesses, and knows his own way to be attractive.
Kouchi Yuugo:
It’s Travis Japan. I’m not good at dancing, but they are cool to master that. It’s attractive for them to be able to make a strong performance with a sense of oneness, which is different from us.
Kyomoto Taiga:
I think Snow Man, Love-tune, Travis Japan are coming to their perfection. Each of them knows how to show themselves, and it’s good that we can tell that they are performing with confidence.
Jesse:
I like Travis Japan’s non-Johnny's and dance performer-like atmosphere, and I always watch them at the side of a stage. I especially like Kajiyama Asahi who dances with facial expressions and Miyachika Kaito who has a different look when he dances.
Matsumura Hokuto:
Tanaka Juri and Morita Myuuto. These two are unique and catch my attention. Juri's rap and Myuuto's dance have unique personalities, and it’s cool that they have thorough determination with it.

[Self-assertion in any case, which is just the nature of SixTONES]
――How do you feel after finishing the butai “Tou×Zai Show Gassen" at Shinbashi Enbujou?
Matsumura: It was refreshing because we had a performance at Shinbashi Enbujo for the first time.
Jesse: I was happy to perform at Shinbashi Enbujo, where “Takizawa kabuki” is held.
Morimoto: Shinbashi Enbujo, in my head, equals Takizawa (Hideaki) kun, and it’s a stage for kabuki, so I couldn’t imagine like Can I have a concert there? Can I do a skit? Can I do basketball?
Tanaka: Honestly, we didn’t even know how to liven up the audience.
Kyomoto: Weather we should make an exciting stage or a really enchanting stage. It was hard to judge which is more fun for the audience, so we had difficulty in deciding that.
Kouchi: We discussed all the time weather we want the audience to sit and watch or stand up, but we couldn’t find the answer during the rehearsal.
Matsumura: We concluded that we needed to figure it out based on their reactions.
Tanaka: Then the stage was opened, and we said that: shouldn't we make them stand up to make the performance exciting? So we decided that Shintaro does something in the performance that can liven up the audience.
Morimoto: I shouted "Stand up~!!" in the middle of the performance
Kyomoto: But they didn’t stand up right away. It took quite a while for them to stand up.
Tanaka: I guess they were confused because they didn’t know if they can stand up at Shinbashi Enbujo.
Matsumura: But it was fun because I’d never experienced a stage where we make changes in it depending on the audience’s reaction.
Jesse: It was a stage where SixTONES’ nature gradually came out through the accumulation of everyday work.
――Now SixTONES have more original songs. Do you choose your songs by yourselves?
Tanaka: We were allowed to pick the songs except “Kono hoshi no HIKARI”
Kyomoto: For the stage “Shounentachi”, we picked a song called “BE CRAZY”, but it was better to have a happy song, so we did “Kono hoshi no HIKARI” as well. I feel like as if we were singing a debut song when we all are singing this song together.
Jesse: I know! I do too.
Morimoto: I was happy that when Jesse turned his mic to the audience during this song, at Saitama super arena, people who aren’t our fans were also singing along.
Matsumura: Yeah, I was surprised that it was known so much. About the selection of the new song “Amazing!!!!!!”, I remember it was the 12th song we listened to out of 14 songs.
Kyomoto: We had a few “maybe this song” nominees, until we listened to this one.
Tanaka: We looked at each other and said “Isn’t this good?”
Kouchi: We all agreed on it 100%!!
Matsumura: We have a strong preference for songs and it actually is presumptuous for us to say opinions on titles and lyrics, but they let us have some idea for it. By doing so, our nature comes out I guess.
――Do you also think about choreography and costumes?
Tanaka: Basically choreographers do it.
Matsumura: We tell them what we want to try, then they compose a base of the dance that is easy for us to rearrange.
Morimoto: So it’s like all of us are choreographers. LOL
Kyomoto: They let us have some opinion for our costumes as well. The design sketch of the costume for the new original song was originally gold, but we proposed that we preferred black.
Kouchi: We feel black was a better choice in the end.
――You are adding colors of SixTONES to what you have proposed.
Jesse: I think so.
Matsumura: We spend quite a lot of time for that.
Tanaka: We discussed all the time while we had “Johnny's All Stars Island”. We thoroughly discussed since we had a lot of time together.
Kouchi: We basically share a room in backstage, so we kept talking and talking when someone came up with something and started conversations..
Morimoto: I feel like we kept giving our opinions to each other just before the stage.
――How was “Johnny's Jr Matsuri” that was held for the first time in 5 years?
Jesse: It was really fun because it’s been since 2012 that Jr. were the main focus at such a huge place.
Tanaka: The individual groups fully expressed their strong points, so it was also interesting to watch that at the side of the stage.
Matsumura: When we sang “Be crazy”, we had a choreography of scrum putting arms on each other’s shoulders, and it was so fun to do that with all of the Juniors together.
Jesse: SixTONES is good at involving everyone around us.
Kyomoto: It’s so good that everyone joins in even without us saying “Do it together!”
Jesse: “Zudon” is finally becoming stable as a SixTONES’ catchword.
Kyomoto: You’ve kept saying that for 2 years but it wasn’t known well.
Jesse: I thought continuity really has a meaning. Lol
Kouchi: Jesse has been doing that for 2 years all by himself even though it’s not funny.
Matsumura: When we say “Zudooon”, our voice is so loud
Kouchi: Maybe because it’s sonant?
Morimoto: We become mighty LOL
Jesse: What, after such a long time?
――What do you want to do as SixTONES from now on?
Morimoto: I want to be on TV with 6 of us.
Jesse: I just want to appear in front of people anyway.
Tanaka: We want to see the light of the day~~ (i.e we want to be popular)
Morimoto: Our managers say “You do appear already!”, but it’s just within Johnny's....
Kyomoto: We want opportunities where we stand in front of people who are not interested in Johnny's.
Jesse: Now SixTONES is nothing but a unit in Johnny's Jr, but I want as many people as possible to know us.
Kouchi: We just want to be more famous.
――When you appear in a music program, are you ok as back dancers of your senpais?
Everyone: Of course!!
Kyomoto: We are asking to let us be our senpais’ back dancers.
Matsumura: I wanted to us to back Sexy Zone’s concert this year again
Tanaka: But our schedule was booked up.
Kouchi: Some people don’t want to be back dancers, but we are different.
Jesse: We rather want to!
Morimoto: We just want to so badly.
Tanaka: Because we want even a little experience.
Morimoto: We want to see various senpais’ backs there. We want to learn there.
Matsumura: We would like to be at the back of anyone possible, as long as our schedule allows.
Kyomoto: We also want to have some events with our fans.
