My trip to the South Pasadena Public Library friend's of the library book store netted a few neat purchases:
The four-volumed set of Winston Churchill's
A History of the English-Speaking People ">
I knew that Churchill had won the Nobel Prize for literature during his tenure as Prime Minister during post-WW II England. His efforts as a historian outputted this four-volumed work as well as his more famous six-volume account of World War II (who better to write on it?!). The set I picked up was a 1956 printing and, asides from some wear in the accompanying bookslip, was pristine-- as good as new. At the smashing price of $2.50, it was a must-buy. I'll be setting aside a month's worth of free time sometime in my life to read these four books cover to cover.
Also picked up was that new Abraham Lincoln book:
A Team of Rivals I noticed later on that the dust jacket and parts of the book were soiled by what appears to be strawberry jam (apparently, someone was reading during breakfast). Still, I was happy with the purchase. At $2.50, it was more than acceptable.
