Getting Lost

We got up mid morning and about 11 o'clock I went to get the Subaru behind the motorhome so we could hitch up and get going. I looked at the tires on the motorhome on my way to the front door an discovered from the gauge that the tires were not equalized and we thought the inside passenger side tire was quite low. We arranged with the DD dealer to air up the tires which they had refused to do before. This delayed us about 45 minutes but the tire was not that low it was in taking them off to work on the brakes and seals and messed up the connection on the Crossfire gauge.

We drove across the Columbia River into Portland and went to the tire dealer at a major truck stop. We could drive in and order tires. They checked the dates on the tag axle tires and they were 1997 which is really old for tires on an RV. One of things you don't every want to happen is a tire blowout. Blowouts can cause a tremendous amount of damage to the underneath of the motorhome plus the risk of going off the road.

They had the appropriate tires and started to put them on, about half way through the process we asked how much and were told $600 each. This was a big OUCH. We thought perhaps $400. These are the big truck tires 22.5 load range L which actually is much more than needed for the tag axle which could go with load range G.

We have had to learn about tires, batteries, electrical systems, holding tanks, and other maintenance issues that never come up with ones non moving home.

About 4 o'clock we were ready to leave the truck stop and head for the RV Park. The plan was to set up and then go see Mom and attend a concert at her retirement center.
We asked the best way to get to I -205 and then set off on Marine Dr. Well somehow we wound up following Vancouver Blvd. and after about two miles and a road that went from a major road to a minor residential street we figured out that we were lost, not going in a direction we wanted and now how do we find our way to where we want to go. Our Portland Map was in the car so I called up the map on my PDA/GPS system, managed to find where we were and figure out a route out of our predicament.
We got to the RV Park about 5:30 it was now dark and raining and we had to pick out a site, get set up, change clothes, eat and get to Mother's by 7. No way this was going to happen. I was wandering around the RV Park in the rain trying to figure out where we could park our 40 ft. motorhome and I didn't have my raincoat on so my glasses got so wet I couldn't see with them on.

We finally found a site we could drive through instead of backing in. We plugged in and I phone Mom to say we are not coming over tonight. We were so tired and frazzled we stayed home and I cooked spaghetti for dinner. Imagine me cooking instead of going out to eat.

Oh while driving on residential streets and stop and go traffic the check the transmission warning light kept going on and off. Just one more thing going wrong at an inconvenient time. This past week has been one of the worst as one problem more just kept piling on.
