When I last wrote we were stranded in Van Horn, TX. A two bit town with pretensions. Yesterday morning the two truck driver said our problem was the transmission filters. wayfinder38 checked the transmission fluid and said "I don't think so." We told him we would make other arrangements and moved to a RV Park. Since the Emergency Road Service told us that there were qualified people in Van Horn we went looking for them. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Plus I was feeling sick and I was running a fever.

I checked our motorhome insurance and we had emergency road service through them also. So I gave the information to wayfinder38 and went to take a nap. I only got 3 hours sleep the night before between the traffic, the train and the stress.

Later WF said that our insurer had made arrangements for a tow to El Paso and the Detroit Diesel service agent there and they would be arriving in two hours. So I said i'll nap for another hour. The tow truck arrived after dark and it took about 45 minutes to get us ready to tow. They have to remove the drive shaft to tow us safely. We followed in our Subaru. It was 110 miles from Van Horn to Stewart & Stevenson in El Paso. We were left in the front parking lot for the night about 10 o'clock Mountain Time. I was feeling too frazzled to post anything.

I was up before 7 so I could go in and get us on the list for service. They knocked on the door before 7 to ask us to move our 'bird behind the fence. I explained the problem we had been having since Iowa and what we had done at the two previous shops. They said they would do a preliminary assessment today and then we would know what needed to be done.

We then left for breakfast and grocery shopping. We stopped at the Village Inn for breakfast. I had eaten in one when I was in Eugene for my father's death and did not realize then that it is a chain. This one was very pleasant and the service was good. I told the waitress I was looking for something light as I still was not feeling well. She recommended a dish that was not on the menu of granola, yogurt and fruit. All of their breakfast items seemed too big. My bowl of breakfast was huge. Probably a cup of granola, a banana, several strawberries, and cantaloup plus 2% milk. We spent most of the day in a dreary driver's lounge napping.

At the end of the day the service manager told us the problem had been identified as the air filter and they were trying to find one that fit. Also the last place to work on the secondary fuel filter and broken a plug that could be removed to check the fuel efficiency. That would be United Engines in Oklahoma City where we paid them to trouble shoot the problem of loosing power. The place that told us our air filter was good for 50% and didn't need to be changed. We are way beyond annoyed.

They had our motorhome drivable so we moved to a RV Park a mile away for the night. We are to phone in the morning to find out if they have been able to locate a filter. I expect they might have to order one from Bluebird and we will have to be here over the weekend. If so we will have to explore the cultural delights of El Paso.

wayfinder38's blood sugars have been way too low recently so his usual insulin dose seems to be too strong. He thinks along with his kidneys improving perhaps his pancreas is making more insulin. I said "suddenly a miracle occured." He could use some improvement in health. We are 4000 feet here and he is managing much better than a year ago.

Meanwhile our daughter has gestational diabetes and has been put on insulin. We have done a lot of hand holding by phone as she adjust to the new regimen. Her life seems to be filled with appointments now. I hope she can stay on top of this as a 5'1" woman does not need a super sized baby which is the risk of gestational diabetes.

I hope this makes sense. I am tired and my spelling and syntax fall apart when I'm tired or stressed or both.
