More Cruise Pictures: Key West

Mark and I had a nice, if not somewhat macabre time in Key West. We went on a Ghost and Legends walking tour. We heard some interesting tales, including a story about a voodoo doll which spawned the Child's Play movies (for better or worse), and about a man who married a dead woman and lived with her as husband and wife for seven years. That sicko even went as far as to consummate the marriage! Sadly, we didn't catch any signs of spirits in our pictures. Ghost Hunters we are not. =/ We also walked down to the cemetery and I took pictures of interesting crypts and tombstones.

This angel is all that remains of the old Key West Cemetery which was destroyed by a hurricane on October 11th, 1846. People are interred above ground in Key West because of the hardness of the coral which forms the soil (or so I was told by our tour guide).

This angel is found in the "new" cemetery and marks the grave of Gladys Bates. It is a "noteworthy example of Victorian statuary".

The Papy family vault, which is a "notable example of Gothic Revival Style".

Close-up of stained glass on the opposite wall inside the Papy family vault.

Mitchell family vault, an "unusual brick crypt featuring gabled roofs and arches; very reminiscent of New Orleans cemetery architecture".

Unusual tombstone inscriptions. There were some even weirder ones to be found, but we were too tired, hot and thirsty to go searching for them.

'She bore the cross, now she wears the crown'

'She is just away'

'He is asleep, not dead'

'More lovely and loving than the cats she so admired'

This picture is pretty random...

...but I couldn't resist taking a picture of a medieval-fantasy-esque tavern sign.
