I have taken one course at Pratt ...Text Art. It was fabulous the trouble is all of their classes seem to be during the day which is fine if you are independently wealthy, own your own business or have an employer who will let you work a modified work schedule or vacation. I ended up taking a day off of work sort of. (I went in early and worked 6 to 9:30 and then went to my class.). I was totally immersed in it for 3 days straight and I loved it. A fantastic experience and well worth it if you can get your work to work with you on it. If not...there are other places around that teach and most likely will teach in the evening.

Good Luck.

Yeah -- this is less about the classes and more about shop access. We can do a lot at our shop, but we aren't really set up for jewelry work, nor casting or forging.

Hey...yea my comment was more that their are other shops around that offer shop time once you take their safety course/intro...

How are you?

Good luck finding what you are looking for.

There are other places? Do you know of one?

I've already taken the equivalent of Metals I; a 'basic metals' class (soldering and sheet fabrication) is specifically not what I need.

OK nevermind my thought...I think hmmm for some reason in my foggy post class mind...I had glass in my head even though you post clearly says metal.

But this might or might not help.

Ah yeah, SMG. They do exhibitions and a couple of technique-specific workshops (when I was at UW, there was one on granulation in modern work - I was so sad I didn't hear about it until afterwards). As far as I know, they're not in the business of running shared space.

I was actually thinking they might be a net working place for finding shared space.

*Shrug* :)

PS...Have you talked to Pratt to see since you have had classes about this that perhaps they may waive their class in lieu of that?

No, but I have almost none of the experience they claim to require.

There's a jewelry studio that offers classes and studio time on the ave, somewhere between 52nd st. and Ravenna Blvd., west side of the street.

Aiee... Both you and chaoselemental have told me this place exists, but I thought it was spelled "Danica", which doesn't bring up anything relevant. It's Danaca, says Lost In Seattle.

And now I've been looking at their website and thinking I'll take at least one class from them... It doesn't look like it'll replace Pratt, exactly, but I still badly want to take the stone-setting class. (Two days. Weekend. SCORE.)

If you do take a class at Danaca, please let me know what you think of them. I've had my eye on getting phaedra_lari into their classes for some time.
