Books from other worlds, and other time periods, really were fascinating. Rhode, while growing bored of the pretend game she was playing with the residents of this fake world, had turned to the literature of the other worlds and eras to soothe her overly active mind.
She'd lost herself in everything from comics--the Batman ones, written in French, had kept her occupied for a while--and moved on through novels of every type, science fiction to murder mystery to romance. After a while even those bored her, and she turned to the things she'd kept for last, for desperation.
Science and history, progress, the march of technology and in some cases alchemy and magic. Not all of it was entirely understandable, even to Rhode. The computer books she had to set aside for later, and focus on the more basic mechanical engineering, leafing her way, hour after quiet hour, through books of amazing revelations.
She hoped, if she got home, that she'd remember these things. The sheer advantage of the advances in some of the tomes she read--it could end the war at home in half a year. End the whole, long, bloody, horrible affair for once and for all. The Earl would be pleased. But she was smart enough not to count on remembering.
It didn't stop her from reading on with dark fascination all the same.
